Look for the Rainbow - unplugged

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
I posted a Coffee House version of this song in June of 2008. After I did I went back into it and redid some parts and took out others to make a clean acoustic version.

It's a song about hope and love and is also a Christian song, so for those who don't enjoy this kind of music I thought I'd warn you in advance.

As I recall, this was the first song I wrote way back in 1982 and since I love the way the new version came out I thought I'd post this one.

I hope you enjoy and are inspired by this simple song.

Verse 1

When ever dark clouds fill your sky
And it rains the whole day through
When you feel you want to cry
Here's what to do

Chorus 1
Look for the Rainbow, Look for the Rainbow
And remember God's promises to you
In your life you will know sorrow
In your life you will know pain
But remember Jesus promised
That he would come again

Instrumental verse

Verse 2
When you're tempted into sin
And you hate the things your do
When you feel you've lost control
Here's what to do

Chorus 2
Look for the Rainbow, Look for the Rainbow
And remember God's promises to you
In your life you will know trouble
In your life your sure to fall
But remember Jesus loves us
And forgives us all

Look for the Rainbow, Look for the Rainbow

And remember God's promises to you

Thanks for listening Jim. Glad you liked the song and the way I put it together.

It's a very special song to me on a personal level because of where, how, and why I wrote it.

Oh, I like this...
What a song from the heart with the trademark deep vocal of Ed. Perfect music background... and that chorus:
Look for the Rainbow.... yeah, just keep remembering and holding on to his promises... wisdom that only the heart can grasp.

thanks Ed...
sloparts said 3049 days ago (June 18th, 2009)
Thank you Jack
I wrote this song while I was on a religious retreat back in 1982. It the first song I ever wrote and was very special for me. Over the years since then only a handful of people have ever heard it.

Now that it's posted here, maybe it will bring a certain peace and tranquillity to a few more people. I hope it does.

Thanks you for listening and for understanding Jack. God Bless you and yours,

Ed

As the story goes, that's what the Rainbow's there for. Good song all around, sincere and unpretentious.

A song of hope and encouragement. I love the chord progression in this, as well as the lyrics, playing, and your vocals. A real treat, Ed.:-)

I'm glad you liked the way it came out on this version. To me this one lets the song, and the Son shine, instead of the music being the focus of the song.

great
This is a great country-gospel song.
It slightly reminded me a bit of one of my favourite country artists, Porter Wagoner.
Really sweet mandolin solo too.
Fantastic!

Yeah, a Country Gospel song, I like that description. The fact that it reminds you of Porter Wagoner, is a nice thing to.

Thanks for listening and for the kind words Alec, it means a lot to me, I'm glad you enjoyed the song.

Be well my friend,

Thank you Bob
for the wonderful comments on the song, and for coming over to listen. I'm really please that you liked it. I did like the mandolin part myself, I thought it helped the character of the song, without taking away from the message.

Take care my friend,

Ed

the only thing you can do with love
is give it away my friend. You can't hoard it, save it, buy it, or steal it, so you might as well give it to someone who needs it more than you do. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, you also can't run out of it while you're giving it away.

Thanks my friend, I'm glad you liked this one and I appreciate that wonderful comment.

Be well David

Aloha - Live from... Arkansas?
Smooth in a Marty Robbins or Elvis mode a la Love Me Tender. Sweet, tender. Mondo mando. And the studio work on this is Tupperware tight. While I remain a proud heathen, if I weren't I would bless ya all up for this one. It's all heart.

Glad you liked this one my friend, even though no conversion took place. Oh well, the world need "The Few, The Proud, The Heathens" too. ;-)

vocals. The mando was a nice touch and the acoustic drop down also added flavor. A fine acoustic tune with a whole lot of meaning. Great job Ed. You did it again man.

I hadn't thought about it until you said it, but I can almost hear Feter singing this one with me. Maybe I'll ask him if he'd like to try it and see what happens. Good idea Keith, thanks.

And thanks again for listening and the kind words my friend, it is appreciated. Sunday is a good day for this song, but then again it might just give a little comfort on any day, depending on what's gong on in a person's life.

Yep, seeing Rainbows. That's why we have them is to see, and remember.

Glad you liked the song Vic, but Elvis ? I could see him doing this song, yes, but I'm sure it would be a lot better than anything I could do with it.

I will take the comments on the guitar and vocals thought, and thank you very much for those.

I finally did notice the little thump at the end of the song, and went into the tracks to fixed it for a later possible update. For now I think it's just fine. Kind of sounds like I bumped the mic right there at the end, while doing a live show, but that's not what it was.

Thanks again for listening Vic and for the kind words,

It was written at a retreat I went to in 1982. It had a special impact on all of us there the first time I sang it. It took from then till now for me to get a decent recording of it, but I'm really glad I finally did.

Thanks agin for listening Gail and for the kind comments on it.

Ed - I really enjoy listening to your music. I am not a country fan but I really like
your ol' country style - brings back fond memories of childhood for me. This one is
just so smooth and mellow...and inpirational. It just feels good to listen to.

That mandolin was an after thought. I was having a hard time figuring out what to do for the break, when I stumbled across that loop and tried it. It fit the bill perfectly to my ears, so I slice and diced it up until I had the feeling I wanted and called it good.

Glad you enjoyed the song Doug. Thanks gain for the kind words on it my friend. they are greatly appreciated.

"Flaming" Rainbows,
I think I get your drift on that one. Been a bit wet lately, have we ? ;-)

Thanks for the Roger Whittaker reference, although I don't see me being a threat to his domination of that particular genre any time soon. Still, it does feel good to hear it.

Glad you enjoyed the Mandolin as well as the rest of the song Chris. Thanks again for the kind words.
