Walk Away

Description
some finger pickin', some hybrid pickin' & some strummin'

I laid down the music tracks to this a couple weeks ago. then walked away from it as I started working on another song. I wasn't sure when I would get back it. Then I started thinking "well I walked away from that one". Just those words gave me the idea for the lyrics.

Lyrics
Walk Away

there are ties that bind
in your heart
in your mind
there are strings attached
tied in knots
hurts to much
what are you going to do

when those ties start to unwind
that's when you walk away
when it's not in your heart anymore
that's when you walk away

you walk through the line
same old steps
same old signs
time to say goodbye
one last time
one last sign
what are you going to say

when those ties start to unwind
that's when you walk away
when it's not in your heart anymore
that's when you walk away

you don't feel the excitement anymore
one eye on the clock one eye on the door
looking for a scene
could be anything

would you change your mind
not this time
can't decide
are the ties to tight
no goodbyes
no alibis
what are you going to do

when those ties start to unwind
that's when you walk away
when it's not in your heart anymore
that's when you

2 styles for the price of one. laying down the music was pretty quick. weaving levels throughout did take some time to get a good result.

thanks for the kind words Feter

Lovely tuneage bro! Beautifully recorded guitars.

Poignant lyrics. Easy to identify with these feelings...

sometimes i record the acoustics with a condenser mike, or it has a xlr output that sounds identical. can't remember which route I took this time. I tried to have the lyrics vague enough to cover a relationship or just getting bored about circumstance. well, i hope so at least

I particularly love the guitar sound on this. Very cool indeed.

Vocals are gentle and relaxed... I could have used the drums up a tad... Really nice though!

the acoustic i usually record with is made of ash. it actually records better then my Taylor does.

I had the drums up & down. though i did like them up, but they became a bit more dominating. but thinking about it now i might of been able to squeeze them up in a few spots.

love your acoustic songs and really great to hear this Vic.
A great production, nice and clear and a great sound from your acoustic guitar.
Your vocals are superb and some great lyrics.
A great arrangement and yes.....just perfect! Loved it!

there's only one electric on this and it's pushed way back. otherwise it's 5 acoustics weaving in and out. so there isn't any part that has everything going at the same time. a little work but it helps to keep it clean and shiny.

I can hear the Beatles in there Vic
and I like it. I really like the sound you got on this track, including the vocal effects you used. But I could swear I John singing this. Excellent vox and mix my friend. You vocal is outstanding my friend. This is a keeper for sure. This one's on the iPod Vic, thanks for the song.

A little Beatle influence can go a long way. I wasn't even noticing it until I was at the final mix stage.
Not much for vocal effects really. There is some mild chorus effect on the backing vocals. outside of EQing, compression and some room echo thats about it.

thanks again Ed

it helps when everything records well from the start.
It sat for a while because I have a increasing tendency to have no lyric ideas and I had a idea for another song that i almost finished off as well. it was a neck to neck race but this one came in first.:-)

THIS is what I've been waiting for... Nice matching acoustic parts left and right, and neat lead picking... And working in acoustic mode seems to bring out something nice in your vocal... nice sound
i like the guitars especially, vic. great vocals too - just the right amount of reverb on them to convey the mood of the song. the other thing I appreciate is the overall production on this - very clear, crisp, loud and strong. well done, man. glad you came back to this one.

putting the guitars down was pretty easy. 2 where the picking and two where for strumming. Some strong panning really makes them give off a full sound. It did take some time on weaving levels for them though. The solo was a second take, when I ran out of words. It was easier then trying to come up with a few more lines.

Excellent new song of yours!

finger pickin
hey dude this is a great listen - production is perfect - love the sound on the acoustic - each string sounds distinct, nice and fat and round. your voice sounds great too - not so much effect on it this time around? Has a breathy quality that I haven't heard before - a cool 70's AM vibe. great solo too btw.

hey
love the ascending melody in the chorus. This could be a Revolver era track. Psychedelic, but not out of this world. More "I'm Only Sleeping" than "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", but still psychedelic... and still very good.

Sounds full, but also like you held back a bit. It's good to hear the softer side of Vic!

I come in through the back door
every once in a while I put a mellow one out. This one hasn't been sitting around for too long. A couple weeks. Thinking up a lyric idea takes some tie these days. Once I have an idea then it they get written down pretty fast. I started and almost finished another one but knew I had to come back to this or it would sit for a long time.

I do have a older song So So (I think) that's acoustic and being to tired an sleepy.

Thanks Dave

Vic,

I really like this tune. I find myself leaning towards you as you sing this one so softly and, well, beautifully. It's a very warm and inviting vocal style.

That little lead is pretty awesome.

Excellent sound on this one. Definitely one of your best this year, and you've had quite a few "bests" this year.

I love
the string movement, what I mean is how you skip down the neck of your guitar. The runs on the bass and they very confident singing, placed all in the right spots. At the same time never losing the original feel of how it starts with the note progression. Beautiful Vic!

Okay, I rid myself of what I might expect when visiting your page. This is quite a pretty little number! Hope that's not offensive. Great to hear this side of you though, sir! It's really early in the day and to be honest, this is a bit more fitting than being rocked out at 5:45 a.m. (don't ask)

Nice work, Vic! Always a pleasure to hear what you're up to! Also, even though you're not in Seattle, I do always think of you as a Washingtonian and associate a kind of kinship to your music/vibe/ or whatever... Makes me feel like I'm about to head home when I ques up one of your tunes! Thanks, again. Dion

Could identify with lyrics, as many will Vic....I think about 1/4 of the way thru...the Beatles popped into my mind, a result of a combination of your voice, guitar and the flow of the song, as well as the songwriting.... I liked how this song came into being... thanks for sharing your gift...

laid back and easy is right. I thought it was a nice break from some of my other songs. and keeping it simple was a nice chance to just record the music quickly. I'm playing two guitar tracks on the finger picking. one of them probably could have been brought down some on the level.

The Little Man in the picture....
looks like he's trying to "catch the bus." : ) Very nice song Vic. I like the pensive quality of the music reflected in the lyrics. Some people are better than others at reaching that point of honesty within, and finding the strength to let go. too serious - me - back to trying to find the "Don't Worry. Be Happy." song on iTunes. : ) "Here's a little song I wrote. You might wanna sing it note for note......." (Silly me)
