Description
Whatever you might think about the insinuations regarding Michael Jackson's personal life, there's no denying he had a major impact on modern Pop/Rock music.

His death reminded me of a long-ignored piece I had in my Musical Job Jar. Just a raw, unfinished collection of movements reflecting on the music of the *King of Pop*. Here is the opening movement from that collection...

I don't know a single person that did not listen to MJ at one point. Some of his music was very far reaching.

Thank you for this tribute!

Yes, his music was pervasive and he crossed a lot of musical boundaries.

Thanks for listening and commenting. ;)

Now you do, Mark!
I never found any value in MJ's (solo) music. But when Richard Thompson's cover of Britney Spears'
"Oops I Did it Again"
may lead me to reconsider how over-schlocked pop might have underlying compositional value.

And now to the the present piece: Nice work, J.A.! (didn't mean to lose sight of YOUR tune!)

Re: Now you do, Mark!
I wasn't an MJ *fan* but I've always appreciated the artistry and attention to detail that went into his productions... due in no small measure, I'm sure, to Quincy Jones' input. ;)

never, neverland...
great tune and tribute Joe... A tragic talent MJ was. [re: Neverland - our company did tons of work at Neverland going back to when he first bought the place up to recently when things were being dismantled for auction]

My youngest daughter's first song she liked on the radio was MJ's and McCartney's "The Girl Is Mine." She would sing along with the car radio... and was all of four years old at the time!

Thanks, Jack.

Yes, MJ did the duet with Paul and then bought The Beatles catalog right from under Paul's nose. As I recall, Sir Paul was NOT amused. ;)

Great Killer
feel to this Joe and excellent production..... love the heavy bass so typical of MJ's music. I just loved him as an entertainer.... dazzling talent. Even as a child his vocal emotion and inflection was spot on; something many older vocalists would die for. M

A thriller
The song builds from something quite youthful and innocent, although some clouds are building up in the horizon... is a thunder storm on it's way... and with that typical drum and bass groove we have come to know it builds into a thriller... 'till it suddenly ends... way to early...

Michael's mood...
Joe,
I can hear/see this track starting an MJ music video. It has all the style and emotion and story-line needed to create a short movie, as MJ did in so many ground-breaking tiny epics. This is a fitting tribute.
Peace.

wow this is a very impressive piece of music.
i'm glad i've listened.
it describes the whole life of michael. terrific.
I like deep synth that comes in at about half of the track.

but i'm really shocked how much money is earned with his death. that's quite strange...

fav'd!

Thanks, Lukas.

The tune does try to capture MJ in a nutshell, although this was merely the first movement.

All the money being made... a shock... why? Typically, when an artist dies, interest in their work skyrockets... and so do sales. This is especially true when iconic figures such as MJ pass on and the media frenzy that follows stirs the buying public around the world. ;)

Wow…
It's been a long time since your submission (I think?), so it's great to hear new music from you! This has kind of a Thriller vibe going on, very well done. For some reason, this also reminds me a bit of Einar's music… hmm… I guess it's the synth-based pop feel here and in his music that is similar. Anyway, I really like it, although the abrupt ending caught me by surprise, and I look forward to hearing more movements.

Re: Wow
Thanks, Clark. I appreciate the listen and your comments.

Yes, it's been a while since I've had time for music. This was just something from my musical Job Jar that I fiddle with when I'm trying to pretend I can really compose and orchestrate like guys like you. ;)

I don't know when... or if... you'll hear any more of this particular project. I've got a long queue of songs waiting for my attention that I hope to produce for CDs.

But I would be interested in your feedback on my attempt at an orchestral arrangement for my Song For a Friend.

Thanx,

I was shocked myself when I heard the news about MJ's passing; I just came out from the cinema with my cousins when I recieved a phone call from my brother to ask "did you hear anything at all?" I guess you know the rest... :/

Thanks you, Michael. That classic Moog sound is probably something from ST, or perhaps SonikSynth with a lot of eq-tweaking and fx processing. My work file is buried somewhere right now on DVD, but if I come across it, I'd be happy to share the settings with you. ;)

love the intro...like something out of a tim burton movie. that ghost noise....it's straight out of scooby-doo...i love it. in fact it reminds me of the scooby doo playstation game (which i got into with a seven year old boy). hang on...should i be saying things like that on a song that has michael jackson on the front?
this is weird and groovy joe. i like it a lot.

Weird and groovy it is, sort of like the subject of the tribute, n'est pas?

You're the first to correctly identify the vibe I was going for --- I was thinking Danny Elfman, the dark composer of many scores for Tim Burton's flicks --- and many others, as well. ;)

Nice going! :)

I always
have had the mindset that as long as MJ was making music I would listen to it. He was innovative and inspiring. He also changed the way I looked at music as well as the way I listened to it. I think he was the first to successfully marry the two. In that Thriller was the first video I remember that didn't at all show a band standing around singing and playing at some point within. It told a story. Thriller was and still is as captivating as the day it was released.
ANYTHING outside of this man's music is hearsay and nothing more. Anyone who panders to it will probably have a stack of National Enquirers by there bed as well.
Peace

Thanks for stopping by, Guy. MJ was a musical genius, but his wild eccentricities attracted a lot of the negative press that plagued him later in life. I am only interested in his musical contributions. That's really all that remains. ;)
