Description
This is the opening instrumental track to my album "Broken Symmetries" which, until now, had not been posted here. But I figured I'd put it up here since it's been quite some time since the album was released. I'm listing it as "Cinematic Soundtrack" because it's the only genre that seems to fit at all. As with a lot of my music it's not always easy to label.

I hope you like it.

Dark and brooding
does this set the table for the album?... "Broken Symmetries" there is an ominus atmosphere communicated... "all who enter here abandon hope"....

I love the distant guitar track that almost sounds like a baby crying... powerful imagery... even if I got it wrong...

Thanks Scott
Thanks Scott. This track sets the opening tone to the album and leads into the next track but the album evolves and mutates quite a bit along the way. There is another short instrumental in the middle and a final one called "TO Nothing" that wraps it up in the end.

I suppose it's not meant really as an "abandon all hope" message so much as it is a challenge to find hope at a seemingly hopeless trailhead.

Empty nursery
This is beautiful and powerful, and I would love to see you take this, or something like this, and extend it into a longer track. I realize that this is an impractical suggestion, given the fact that it is a completed track on an album, but I just feel like you have first class material here, material that could be explored further. Of course, I probably think this way about some instrumental tracks because I am a composer of primarily instrumental music, and I'm always trying to assess what the potential is in any musical idea to grow into something longer, but I also wouldn't suggest this if I didn't think the material was as strong as it is.

In terms of mood, it does have a kind of eerie, haunting quality — a song playing on a wind-up mobile in an empty nursery that stops mid-phrase — but, as I said initially, it is also very beautiful.

A great track here.

Thanks
Thanks. I like you description. I certainly could expand on this one. Who knows, I just might some day. But for the opening I just wanted it to sort of tease the listener into the space of the album.

Good to see you back!
Love the opening track... it has the lilting 3/4 quality, coupled with the warbling on the "crying synth"... gives this sort of an underwater quality... but I agree with Clark, there's always womb for this to grow into something bigger and even more beautiful... very tasteful. Very nice mixing job, as usual.

Will we be seeing more of you around here again, perchance? :-) I've certainly missed your creative presence!

Nothing is Something
I am so glad to find this, I don't feel so alone anymore. I could have made this, I mean it sounds familiar in the way I approach sounds on the whole.
Thanks for making this and sharing here. Come by the Daug House and, well, I think "Trudy" would resonate with you...

Great opening
It has the feeling, to me, of a lonely Music Box, playing, by itself in an empty, dark room. Dusty, black and white, with beams of light seeking themselves through the cracks of the walls. Very interesting opening, you can anticipate something large following this. Of course, large can mean just about anything musically. But, it does set a great expectation. I love the piano, both in sound as well as performance.

artful and evocative
Soothing, blended beautifully. Would work very well as a soundtrack. Reminds me of Bear McCreary's 'Someone To Trust'. Erhu fits perfectly in this setting. I hear nothing 'dark' in this, to me it's more of a reflection, creating a thoughtful, yearning mood. I could listen to a 7 minute track of this.

Imaginative
This paints some interesting sound pictures. Or real pictures for listeners so inclined. You're using an interesting combination of real and synthetic/processed sounds, but everything is very organic. Good job.

From Nothing
It resonates with me. I think its cool you went with this as the opening track. I take from it the following tracks will be equally interesting and different.
The resolution into that final mode leaves me anticipating the next ?

Thats a cool pic. Embryonic dinosaurs?

unique. It is the sound of nature seeking life, possibly in less than optimum conditions. It is still hopeful and determined. Thanks.
