Windchime Witnessed

Description
Once again I thank michael2 for offering up a piece of sound for others to have their way with.

This is from his Windchime Experiment.

I'm basing my idea on a court room scene where the 4 eyewitnesses had different recollections of what was said by the "perpetrator" (love that word)....

1) He said, "No one will get hurt - set the money down"

2) He said, "Don't make me shoot you - set the money down"

3) He said, "No one will get hurt - put the money down"

4) He said, "Don't be a hero - Set the money down"

I originally had the 4 testimonies simultaneous stating their recollection, but it was so chaotic and sounded like I forgot the words or something. Too hard to comprehend the 4 different statements, so I made it four verses, 2 of them being close (#1 and #3) but not exact. My coworker is on jury duty at this very moment, so that and the experiences that Michael shared about his jury experience got all discombobulated in my head and forced the lyrical ideas.

So, there are also 4 synthesizer voices intended to mimic the 4 differing testimonies.

Extra Drums
I messed with adding some drum here and there but nothing sounded right, so I got a bit experimental with the synths, letting them go on and on for a while. It was a very atmospheric tune when michael2 posted it and I appreciated that and tried to preserve that to a degree.

Thanks for listening bro!

Blast from the past
Great, nothing takes me back to my childhood like self indulgent synth music and robbery. It takes me back to the 70’s when I attended a Styx concert with my new girl, Deanna Sue, on or first date. During a five minute synthesizer diatribe by Dennis Deyoung, I thought, “Hey, $12.00 a ticket? I’m getting robbed here!!”

Bravo 5 extra, bravo.

$12.00 Download
Hey Johnny,

It's been a while since you've dropped by to listen and comment on any of my tunes. I'd like to say that I've missed you. Yup, I'd like to say that, but I'm trying harder to be honest ALL the time.

Hey, in honor of your Styx concert, if you click the download icon, it will automatically withdraw $12.00 from your account.

(Oops! So much for honesty!)

Intriguing stuff... Michael's always great with unique thematic stuff... and Bob, you add a strange innocent synth candy-coating to this, which juxtaposes the lyrics weirdly, perfectly quirky.

Wild, Weird, Quirky Innocence
Michael = Unique

I didn't even listen to the entire composition when m2 posted the tune- bailing on one of mentors. Imagine my surprise and embarrassment when I decided to accept his challenge and hearing for the first time the drums kicking in! I felt like a jerk.

After that, I couldn't stop listening to what he did and my fingers just started pushing buttons and keys and my mind took me to a hallway where potential jurors sit and wait for days.

I was really more interested in the space between the vocals (testimonies) than I was the actual testimonies, even though that was probably what my ears were waiting for. I tried to stay true to his original experience, even though I knew little about it.

Drako, has anyone told you how handsome you are lately?

Ear Buds Will Never Forget You
LOL!

Johnny Mustard Seed is a piece of work!

I love it (secretly) when he visits and comments on songs, but especially my songs. Normally, he blames me for a fight between him and his woman and it's always fueled by some out of date trendy drink, like Bartels and James or something odd like that.

Drako has a cool new avatar. The colors are awesome.

good show my friend! I also love how you can always put your mark with noises, sounds and melodies. simplicity is king in my opinion, and the 4 perspectives are well portrayed, even though the outcome is never positive. Personally,
I've heard: "no sheep will get hurt- put that synth down", but my ears my suffer from from too much repeated exposure to your music.

This sounds like a court room audience where everyone is on some sort of drugs (ketamine?)

The Honorable Judge Dorsey
This is yummy. One of my favorite slices of music is "Happy melody + Harsh theme + Scary soundbed". This fits the bill for sure. When you sing "Don't make me shoot you" with that happy melody and harmony... Brilliant. I bet M2 will dig this when he gets the chance. I would. I do.

You know something Eric, that makes great sense to me. It's like the original recipe for the Reese's Peanut Butter and Jelly Cup - Only Three Great Tastes In One Candy Bar wouldn't fit in a wrapper so they got rid of the jelly. But next time youre at home, feeling "experimental and fancy free", get out the jelly and put it on you peanut butter cup.

I heard it said in the courtroom, "Who are you to judge me, Your Honor?"

Thanks for the comments. It is a good formula you've come up with.

Ooh!
That sounds like a real treat. The stoner I sit next to me tells me that I should try putting peanut butter on one of those Totinos party pizzas. Sounds horrible. But jelly on a peanut butter cup... that's magic. I went through a period where I wrote depressing songs, but the melodies were like a 1960's dance party. Funky mix, Bob. I really dug it.

this is incredible, almost reminds me of one of those weird songs on Tommy that Keith Moon might sing. I can see you performing this as a one man band at Tommy's Holiday Camp. super cool (way cooler than my version); how did you even come up with this? awesome.

Keith Moon - The Singer
Michael, this was a perfect foundation for a good story. I find it funny that it's a make believe story based on what really happened in your courtroom experience.

And you just nailed me with one of my favorite jokes - pick a great band with a great singer and tell the guy he sings like the drummer!

Seriously, I am crying in laughter! Your comparison makes so much sense to me!

Thanks for another opportunity to work together as we often do.

you know
keith was an awesome singer. what was the song about the pervy uncle? "down with the bedsheets, up with your nightshirt." genius. would much rather play in his solo project than daltrey's. roger daltrey actually bums me out on a lot of their stuff (pretty much anything bast the who by numbers). glad you got the reference.

I was tripping on this great movie - the kind I used to see when I was a a lot younger.
Only this wasn't a movie & it hit me in different places. Terrific atmosphere.
Quirky, ominous and a whole lot of fun.
A unique and wonderful work Bob.

Quirky, Ominous
Bingo Bowman.

I tried to create an atmosphere that would say a lot, without saying too much, so a bunch of space seemed to help with that imagery. I also held back on my usual over use of distractive and maddening synth leads.

Thanks for the comments. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Dorsey;s voice
Wow - what happened! You been taking lessons (ha ha). This is ace - reminds me kinda of Laurie Anderson. I love the big wall of vocals (and there's a vocoder sort of effect that I can never get right) - bizzare, but catchy!

Big Dirty Wall Of Vocals
What an ugly image you've painted... oh wait, it was me that painted it for you. Never mind!

Actually, there is no vocoder effect. I used Male Basic on the voices - probably slightly tweaked. I did that Gary Numan technique of playing the same melody beneath the vocal line. First time I've tried that. I think that's the effect you hear.

Bizarre but catchy!

are you familiar
with www.taxi.com - it's a music site that after submitting your songs, soundtracks( for tv or other places) or whatever you have, the industry A&R reps (I believe) can contact you if they like and need your work, you can build your own library and submit your music as you like... thought of this as I was listening to your very creative and superbly done different voices for 4 separate witnesses... I could clearly see the courtroom drama! Very good Bob, I will have to check out Michael2's original also.... then I read the rest of the comments, was laughing so hard, almost forgot what I was going to write... the humor here is better than any comedy I've seen lately! You and many others here make this a fun place to make music!

Bowie
Could be a great David Bowie song. Love the synth parts. Lots of interest in those sounds -- not just plain vanilla. I like the dynamic range. The changing filters (is that what's happening?) are real cool.

OK, now at about 3:02 -- sounds like the Death Star just came into view.

This must have taken a ton of time to create.

I like the harmonies on the vocals. Very Lennon/McCartney.

The melody would work well as a Harry Belafonte folk song from the Caribbean.

Overall, a very cool track.

This is trippy cool
For some reason Pink Floyd comes to mind, and not for the usage of "money". It's just a really great, different road of music, very surprising and creatively searching for something new and unique. With the strong lyrics (sometimes being shorter and right to the point is better to me), this is as much a statement as a poem. Very glad you posted on my song so I got to hear this. I was held up by a short, skinny, drugged up cat in Washington DC. If he hadn't shoved a gun into my ribcage, I would've taken him. He said, "Don't do nothing stupid!" I drew his portrait and they caught him.
