This is a girly love song if ever there was one…..inspired by the
feelings I STILL remember having when I was in 8th grade
and watching my future first husband drive by daily with his fellow
high school students, on their way to the local hang-out for a burger.
He was “above” turning his head to look at elementary school girls.
I was SMITTEN…….badly…
(Of course, the smitten went away. In fact, I should note
that Bye Bye Baby was also inspired by him……LOL……)

I know exactly the lovelorn feelings you mention above.... they can always be brought back when we recall those younger days, and this song brings those early days back.
