Description
.... tried to upload this yesterday, but Kenyan broadband is a tricky and unreliable beast. So..... this is a redux of a song Phil and I wrote a few years back, less laid back and a bit more rocked up (I turned his acoustics to electric).

Apologies for my absence round these parts, but just moved the wife and kids to Kenya, and the internet here is very unreliable.

If anyone still remembers me, hope you like this ...

Lyrics
Deep, down deep
I want to believe
Believe in a reason to leave.
Deep, down deep
I've said it all
I'm tired of fighting a broken doll.

People burn like cigarettes
Their scattered ash tastes of regret
They withdraw the sunset
I forget sometimes.
Father , son and holy ghost
Tell me which you love they most
They come to me with frankensence now.

So these days
Soaring days
Soaring deep
So deep
So deep.

Did I reach you, did I run true?
Now the evidence is laid.
Did I break love, did I fake love,
Now my hand is played?

Screen-lit geeks they will collide
Find love among the gigabytes
When you've go no one
Digitalise.

And I try to spy the tiny world
But the safety glass is smeared with dirt;
It's hard to love a face like mine.

And these people burn like cigarettes ....

nice one
love that synth at the beginning. really great to hear you again. too bad about the internet (it's supposed to keep us all linked together no matter where we are). i recognize the tune, but this is a more summery pop vibe at work here. good to see your name, and a posting is just icing on the cake. great track.

Holy Frijoles!
Steve,
WTF? Has Kenya turned you into a freakin' mixing genius or what? I mean holy sh*t! This is huge. I did these guitars? Really? I had no idea I was so good....;-) You took a very decent, and slightly weinie-ish song and turned it into a monster. Nice job man. OK, now can you re-mix our other stuff, too? (;-)

Seriously....not that that last bit wasn't serious--serious as a heart attack actually. Good work my friend. As soon as the MJ folks who DO remember you (which is, if I remember correctly, is almost everyone on the site) get wind of this, you'll have another Top Fan Pick on your hands. Not that that's not the norm for you dude. The new drums are killer, and the vox are completely retooled, too. Thanks for the footnote. I hardly deserve it. Hats off to you.

color me floored,
Philip

You have been missed - but never forgotten
Just keep posting whenever you can - it's always great hearing from you. Must be good to have the family together.
Excellent rework - everything has so much presence and pop. Love the synth work and your vocals rock as always. Great summer mix.

Echowho? Stevewhat?
Never heard of him even though he sounds familiar...I hope the move went well:).

I'll be honest. I like this remake a lot better than the original. Its mostly a difference in taste but I think the opening on this was always worthy of a little more "edge/rockup" throughout. I think it sounds crisper and tighter. All a matter of opinion though right?

By the way I ran across some video of a goofy goth band taken in Germany....way ahead of Depeche Mode and the like:)...in my opinion.

Mr. Craig I presume?
We certainly haven't forgotten you Steve - in fact we were mounting an expedition to find you DEEP in the wilds of Africa. Thankfully I won't have to get those inoculation shots any time soon.

I'd like to say this song is a wonderful surprise but how can anyone be surprised at the always high quality of your work.
This song is simply great. Unforgettable lines and music that goes down real well.
Cheers,
Charlie

Buy a new hard drive...
...okay?... 'cause I'm going to send you about 5 Gb of my tunes to mix... And I don't want any silly excuses about me singing flat or playing badly...

What's up with moving to Kenya, Steve? Move to NEW ENGLAND... It's like England, almost, but newer...-ish....

You and Philip turn out phenomenal things when you get together, too.

I like everything about this. That's about as specific as I can be...

I Remember You!
And we used to play together when we were kids! Funny, I don't remember you being such a tough guy.

How did you turn this into such a different sound? I remember the classical kinda spanish guitars that Phil played? Love both versions as they are a different as night and day. It'll be nice to compare them when they show up on a shuffle.

Great to know your family has been reunited with you in Kenya and here at MacJams.

Great post Steve, and Phil, great guitar work!

Bob

wonderful job you have done in re-mixing this. Still like the original lots, but this is totally pro sounding.
Very happy to have both versions of this. Downloaded. Thanks.
How could anyone forget you. Good luck with Kenya.

this is really swell
where to start man, first, the song is mixed so well that it actually tastes good. second, your vocals are crazy good - stylized enough to add some new wavey flavor but honest enough to sell it. third the composition is exactly what i'd expect for a tune like this but, how to express it, i EXPECT that the song will go a certain way, but rarely hear it delivered, and you deliver like takumi fujiwara.

Nice one
I got to this from a link on facebook from Philip VanDusen - a young Dame Bowie!

:-)

I actually think this sounds more like the dame's older stuff from the last couple of records he did

Nice work all

Great track
Excellent all around, but the mix is truly exceptional - All the sounds occupy their own spaces, pushing the boundaries outwards for an expansive feel. The acoustic guitar is a tasty flavor. And the lyrics - if William Gibson had a songwriter character, he would write lyrics like that.

Dig
Steve, great stuff. I always enjoy yours and racerat's music, singing, lyrics, and production. The only thing I kept wishing here was that the drum beat would open up to a straight rocking beat to mix up the syncopated beat structure. No problem though...sounded great!

Hope things are good in Kenya. Jeeze, what a move my man. Take care.
