Lyrics
So tell me now what does a man gain
From all the works of his hands?
Is it so many castles in the sky?

A generation goes and
A generation comes
Is there anything new under heaven's eye?

Refrain:

But a fresh breeze is blowing from the east.
Seems like the weather's gonna change.
A voice calls out, "Harden not your heart!"
Something new is going on
Something's gonna change
As I find myself drawn into the light.
As I find myself drawn into the light.

When I consider all the things I have sought
All the sweat and the toil
Nothing gained for treasure spent.

Make a mark, become a name
Chasing down the wind
Was this vanity heaven sent?

[Refrain]

What advantage does the wise man have
Over the fool?
What will be with the setting of the sun?

Maybe life's just some cruel joke
Just a twist of Fate?
On the edge the questions come.

[Refrain]

Copyright 2006 Jack Miller
inspired by: (Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity...
The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.
There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after...
chasing down the wind...

Behold, I will do a new thing; now shall it spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.)

Sorry....
I posted this song about an hour ago... had to take it down. A couple mixing effects were left unchecked in GB that were supposed to be checked. But as a bonus.... revised song art! heheh. Thanks.

Thanks michael2...

I came across the Em, B7 chord change, I think in a Willie Nelson song. I started playing around... pulled out the electric guitar... well, something like that. ;-)
I'm not familiar with Skip Spence, but will check him out. Nice to know you like this one.... space bar band music from... spaceDadai.

cheers

Heavens!
Michael2 really said it all (that's lazy of me, I know, but true). I wouldn't dream of saying anything more about this remarkably still song.

Thank you for the download.

Recognized...
...the influence of Ecclesiastes even before I read the description.

And I'm afraid that---like the Vicar---I must put this one at the top of the list of my faves by you.

I just love the loose "Reno, Nevada" feel of this song. Timeless...just timeless!

Kudos also to Craig for his fine guitar work herein!

Be well my friend!

Recognized... of course you did ;-)

Well, as I've said, this is one of my favorites. A lot came together in this song. I haven't done any songs for a while that are full band songs. This causes me to want to revisit that approach. And yes, kudos to Craig. Thanks Mike, you're a 'GoodFelloWilly'....

Making music sense...

Hey Ed, real nice to hear you opinion on the music, as well as the lyrics. This is an oldie favorite, not just because of how it turned out - but it was a real enjoyable collab with snowdragon (Craig Bakay).
Thanks...

Good to hear this one again
And listening to every note through headphones. Your voice and Craig's guitar are great together. I really like your vocals and lyrics in this song. Those who will listen are being invited, and at a certain time, the door will be closed. "Harden not your hearts" is the clarion call to mankind, and some will listen.

Harden not your hearts...

says it all. And I am so glad to have you point that out. Some will listen... those called, and only those called. the Gospel goes forth to find those whom the Father is drawing.... into the light.

roxy... thanks.
