Description
This is an odd song that I wrote and recorded back in 2005. I had it posted here way back when but took it down, and re-worked it recently. What I did was replaced the Drums on Demand drum loops with EZ Drummer Jazz Kit drums with a whole different feel. It's in 9/8 according to the song file, but there are all sorts of dropped beats and half measures and stuff like that so it's a bit oddly timed and was fun to come up with new drums for. The guitar and vocals and bass are the original recordings, as is the weird breakdown in the solo section, which is a drunken sounding wooziness that is made up of my then 7 year old son Maurice and I jamming on a clarinet and dented trumpet that we got out of the trash, and then I recorded some banjo and electric piano in there that sort of plays along. Obviously, the banjo and the electric piano were the only things that we knew how to play... We weren't drunk but it sounds it due to all the squeaking and squawking. And we did that twice and I just sort of threw it all in there in a tossed salad. The original recording was done in GB, and the remix was done in Logic Pro.
Lyrically I was going for Mose Allison or Tom Waits territory, and I think I landed in the general area. There's a third verse that I left off for some reason but maybe it was just going on too long.
This song sort of cracks me up and I really did need to clean up some things, and I'm way happier with the drums. Oh, and in the solo section I added in a bit of EZ Drummer Trash Kit that has that whoopee whistle you'll at the end if you listen to the whole thing.

Lyrics
Your mind has a mind of it’s own
It sits like a king on the throne
If anger can be power
It’s also wasted lots of hours
But it’s important to throw the dog a bone
If the past could stay in the past
And the rules weren’t so hard and fast
So we lived in the present tense
It would make a lot more sense
If the past would stay in the past
Why? Why? Why?
You might find, find, find
If you try, try, try
You can change the channel
Anytime
What’s lost tends to stay lost
It won’t come back no matter what the cost
Be it something you posses
Or your innocence
What’s lost tends to stay lost
Why? Why? Why?
You might find, find, find
If you try, try, try
You can change the channel
Anytime
Your mind has a mind of its own
And plenty for which you must atone
If you tone down the craze
You may find a way out of the haze
But your mind has a mind of it’s own
It sits like a king on the throne
If anger can be power
It’s also wasted lots of hours
But it’s important to throw the dog a bone

in a modern kind of way - like the unison vocalizing. Thats how I play clarinet too. don't even ask me about trumpet..... Odd is a good descriptor yet highly creative.
