Railroad Jazz

Description
I posted an earlier version of this song about four years ago, here on MJ. This time, it has a new ending. This track is on my 2005 jazz piano CD. Piano is from Synthogy Ivory, bass is an instrument on SonicBoomBox (a very useful tool, for PowerPC only), and drum loops come from SonicBoomBox. Controller is my good old Yamaha P-120.

I teach elementary music, and we often sing this song during music class. So because the tune is always in my head, I felt like doing a jazz piano version of it.

YOU'VE been workin'
John,
Another stellar jazz piano number from your nimble fingers and dexterous imagination. This is super. All I can do is sit back in awe with a smile on my face that people like you are able to write and play with such panache. So skilled. The production quality is wonderful, too. ... Love the chu chu at the end.
Peace.
Paul

always loved this...
...song. Dig your fresh take and the cool harmonizations. Swingin' and lyrical. Great piano chops. Also love the organic feel of the recording. Sounds like a real trio.
I am entertained by your inventions & laid back swing. Great post!

a smile
always on my face when I finish a Stebbe tune. You really have a gift for the phrasing. Even on a simple melody your embellishments sound gorgeous and textured. Nice one

You make jazz fun
You take a classic tune and make it uniquely yours. Your class is fortunate to have you for a teacher. :-)

Tip of the hat
I love this tune. it has such a warm, nostalgic, boyhood sense to it. you capture the carefree time, effortless. I can imagine you wearing you conductor's cap while playing. A true smiler, this one.

You know, John...
...I actually used to work on the railroad. Sold tickets then worked in inventory...
Now...what's that got to do with this tune? Well, "duh": we used to groove to tunes just like this one while sittin' in the caboose, playing cards and sippin' whiskey.
;)
Another fine tune, John...love the steam engine at the end...

Great fun!
What is it that makes train numbers so seductive on piano? You have added handsomely to the genre. Toot toot!

John, this is a really cool interpretation. Groovin', foot-tappin', head boppin' fun.
