Description
I wrote this about a friend of mine who's frequently down in the dumps and when you try to help him it's almost like he's clinging on to his feelings and doesn't want to find a way out.
Maybe I should mind my own business ;-)
Anyway, I got a song out of it.
Hope you like it
Cheers

Lyrics
Well I wake up every morning
And I go to bed the same
I spend all day trying to find somebody, something
to take the blame

Criticism is ammunition
In a war which no one wins
It’s a sick epidemic, endemic, polemic
It’s one of those things

So misery, complacency
I’m buggered if anyone’s changing me
I’m in a rut , tied in a knot
churning feeling in my gut
So let me be, no E.S.T
so can’t you see
That I’m fighting keeping down

Louise Hay says I’m ok
Never made a difference anyway
Mad Jack, Prozac, little green pills
trying to find a cure for society’s ills

Someone get a doctor
Won’t someone get a nurse
Cos in every day in every way
I’m getting worse

So misery, complacency
I’m buggered if anyone’s changing me
I’m in a rut , tied in a knot
churning feeling in my gut
So let me be, no E.S.T
so can’t you see
That I’m fighting keeping down

Many thanks Feter
I wasn't sure what 'genre' to put this under as it's got acoustic guitars..and grungy guitars so had to put in in indie rock.
I think that's right
Thanks for dropping in and glad you liked it

Thanks Davis
I wrote that line because when someone gets down they seem to like having a pop at everything and everyone..and I'm guilty of doing it too.
Anyway, glad you liked it and thanks for dropping in
cheers

keeping down
This is a decent song. Your lyrics are good, and the musice settles into a nice groove throughout. If I may offer a bit of criticism (that's constructive, not ammunition :-) ). Your vocal performance is good - I think it could be great if you worked on your phrasing just a bit. You tend to start each line in the same way, and often it sounds a bit like you are just trying to fit it all in. I think mixing up your phrasing would make this song exceptional.

Anyway, of course just my opinion. Still a nice piece of work. I appreciate you sharing this with us.

Thanks for your comments
You have a point there.
This song ended up a bit faster than it was on an original take but after I'd spent all the time doing the drums, bass and several guitars when it came to singing it I was having a bit of trouble fitting all them words in..and couldn't be bothered to do a slower version..but good point on the phrasing.
Glad you liked it and thanks for dropping in

i agree with the phrasing criticism above, just because when you do play with the phrasing the result is so cool - for example, the "i'm fighting - keeping do - wow - wown" line. also because the lyrics are well done - lots of opportunities for play.

musically you are always top of the game, the rhythm composition here is standout, has a sweet almost jason mraz kind of acoustic groove that i really dig. great wedding of music and concept, almost as if the music is trying to pull your friend up too, very cool

up and over
And there was me having doubts about the do-wow-wown' line.
Will go back and have another go at trying to change the phrasing around.

Wooh!
This rocks, great song structure, great lyrics and a strong vocal performance. The guitar work is subtle but very effective. Like Tempie I love the "dow wow own" - downloaded.

Thanks Paddy
It was tricky trying to keep the balance that the lead guitar was up enough in the mix but not too loud that it dominated the chords on the rhythm guitars.
I think it worked ok
Cheers for dropping in
Thanks
