Okey Dokey Smokes (Undone) with 12Parsecs

Description
Some time ago I discussed with Scott (12Parsecs) how much I'd like to write and sing some lyrics for his "Okey Dokey Smokes" instrumental.
This is the result. I knocked out the lyrics in about 2 days after a monumental session of listening to the music in the car, on my ipod and PS3 and generally everywhere I went. I recorded them in Garageband on an old dynamic mic for the chorus and my condenser for the verses.
I've retained the "Okey Dokey Smokes" title, but for me the song is "Undone" - the lyrics are close to my heart and tell a fragmented story from my past. Scott and I discussed the strangeness of him discovering I'd pretty much settled on the melody he had in mind for the song. Pretty amazing as we live opposite sides of the Atlantic!
After sending a rough cut to Scott he seemed pretty excited about what I'd done and asked for the raw audio tracks to put a proper mix together. This is the final result and I love what he's done with the magic producer dust.
I think that starting form such a fantastic piece of music I couldn't really go wrong, I'm little more than a very happy passenger on this truly explosive ride.
Many thanks to Scott for allowing me to post this on my page.
Enjoy.

Lyrics
I called you last night and asked you if you wanted to be immortal
You looked into the sky and promised me forever
And I bought it
There's a place that we can go
No-one there's important
And we can hide away

They'll never understand, they'll never hold a place in our hearts
'Cos we're undone
They'll never understand, never hold a place in our hearts
'Cos we're undone

I asked you if you wanted to be a superhero just like me
I ain't got a cape, ain't got super powers
But I got something else in mind

They'll never understand, they'll never hold a place in our hearts
'Cos we're undone
They'll never understand, never hold a place in our hearts
'Cos we're undone

You pull my thread (you pull my thread)
I fall apart (you undo everything that I am)
I'm undone (we'll never have it all)

We're undone, undone

That's a lot of sound for a cigarette pack
not to mention the great vocal and lyrics Paddy. You and 12 Par make a very good team, and should do more collabs.

This really sounds awesome guys. And i still can't believe the sound you got out of that Pall Mall pack Scott. Kudos

i've listened to this about 100 times so far this weekend and i'm still not tired of it. that's a testament to your vocal treatment, Paddy. again, nice work!

reading your description (above) i am just now realizing two things: 1) that you are in the UK (don't know why i didn't realize that before. with email it seems like we're next door to each other.) and 2) that you used a dynamic mic on the choruses. that explains the proximity effect. (i was thinking, "man... he sure moves in close for the choruses!" :)

this was fun. thanks for taking this song to the next level!

Hi PaddyNavinCaryatid - dont mind mentioning I avoided u slightly 4 a while incase our names clashed - sometimes people called me paddy on ere,but I think RG is better - (anythings better anyhow than 'donk' which I got called at school).Anyway that futility aside - this is a perfect rendering of a song - it really takes off and kicks my ass beyond dark matter.Your lyrics and vocals are top notch.Tis indeed a really well produced mix and radio-ready to my ears.Good work - will endeavour to explore more of your tracks.Respect and regards - RG (aka Paddler)

really great piece. radio-worthy indeed (even though the radio bugs the heck out of me, its meant as a compliment!).

the final mix sounds kinda raw to me, but in a way that I like. something about the vocals feel very up front, as in almost floating above the mix. like I said, it doesn't bother me in the least, just an observation.

hope you two work together again!

downloaded and faved!
