Lyrics
The Boy Inside the Man
©2009 Joseph Gurner

Look inside me
See the boy inside the man
waiting to run free

Childhood dreaming
Watching clouds on summer days
Nowhere else to be

There’s no ending
As we run though our days
The future’s far away

Always dreaming
Of the boy inside the man (Boy inside the man)

Look inside me
See the boy inside the man
as you take my hand

Simple moments
Spent beneath a starry sky
Siting side by side

Time is fleeting
As we hurry though our days
The future’s far away

Always dreaming
Of the boy inside the man (Boy inside the man)

Taking a day
I wish I could stay home much more often. I just have to find a way to make lots of money without having to do anything or go anywhere. :)

Glad you enjoyed it, Mark.

great realization of memories gone by... Is that you, Joe? such a cute little towheaded boy! These background vocals are superb. Tell us more about the production of this. By the way, don't know if Iever told you enough about how much I appreciated your horn work on the collaboration we did a few months back.

Reflections
I've been in a somewhat reflective mood this summer. I guess this continues the thoughts from my last tune a couple of months ago. I've always wondered what's the use of being grown up if we can't take the time to enjoy the child inside us. Too many people don't realize that I can be a grownup while letting the kid inside live his life too. We're in too big a hurry to grow up and stay grown up. It's a shame.

As for the production, this one has a ton of tracks - 40-something - about evenly split between vocals and instruments. It's all keyboard. I think there are 14 tracks of just the backing vocals. I wanted everything to have a deep, lush sound. And, as usual, I poured the reverb on pretty heavy, but I think it's appropriate for the style.

And I had tons of fun doing the horns for the tune and it turned out GREAT. Thanks for letting me play along. And thanks for taking a listen.

And, BTW....
Yes, that's me in the pic. My hair used to be almost white when I was a kid. I also loved wearing my rubber boots anywhere and everywhere (if I couldn't go barefoot). So, that's me in my Sunday clothes and my rubber boots getting ready to go to Sunday School.

Sweet
Love the harmonies and and backing tracks. A little reminiscent of Brian Wilson, i.e., the longing and the pretty harmony. Very glad I stopped by for a listen.

Nice touch
This is great! Very good concept and lyrics, very well performed and arranged. Big sound, rich! Excellent work on the keys. The vocals are great, the refrain especially, is a killer. Has a touchy Spandau touch to it.
I love the ending vocals and arrangement very much. This is very, very good!

Thanks!
There's definitely a little Spandau ballet in there and some Style Council as well. Both have such a nice, breezy sound. A tune like this just opens itself up to some great vocal arrangements and a nice, lush sound.

This is such
a lovely song, something I think we all can very easily relate to.
The backing vocals are superb combined with a classic and masterful arrangement. Loving that picture - it's like you are looking at yourself from the past. Could almost be a film script. Enjoyed a lot.
Cheers
Len

Beautiful
Lush arrangement with one of your best vocals and a super melody. Mellow end of the day music when it's time to kick back and rearrange those brain cells and attitude. Put on the headphones, take a little sip of something and go ahhhhhhh!
