Description

The working title of this song was 'Number One' because I wanted to challenge myself to write and record the catchiest rock/pop song I've ever written, in hopes that it would top the imaginary charts in my imaginary rockstar world. Not sure if I succeeded but it sure was fun recording this.
I'm fairly certain I've ripped off a number of bands with these melodies and certainly the chord progression, so feel free to call me on it!

really like the chatter sample that's hilarious. yeah it owes a bit to weezer but weezer owes a bit to a lot of other bands. and it's tons of fun so who cares. great lyrics too man nothing better in a pop song than funny and true.

the old title cracks me up because when my wife and i are fighting we'll give each other the finger (behind the kids back) saying "you're number one, baby"...same stupid joke over and over never fails to get us laughing...

thanks tempie. i thought of you a couple times while recording this - particularly when tracking the bg vox. i tried this whole tenor doo-wap thing but gave up in fear of totally humiliating myself. thanks for the listen and comments.

Your story reminds me of when I was a kid I went to a court case with my mom - she took me to watch these occasionally - probably in hopes I'd become a lawyer one day. Anyway, part of the guy's testimony was that the defendant 'gave him the finger' for what reason I can't remember. Afterwards I asked my mom what giving the finger meant and she said it meant 'one minute'. I accepted that as total fact and for years that's what I thought it meant. whenever I heard someone complaining that someone gave them the finger. I always thought 'what's so bad about that?'

Pop!
This bangs, but is the B-side to "Nobody Knows" :). I actually didn't get a heavy "rip-off" vibe at all. I know people are saying Weezer, but I only see that in the chord progression. And let's be honest with ourselves, we all have 10 songs with that progression. The keys are absolutely divine and the fuzz bass at the end puts a little muscle in the tune.

Yeah...
... it is a little bit Weezer but it reminds me far more of Swedish legends Popsicle (particularly at the start). The guitar solo is brilliant in its simplicity (something I particularly like as my own playing is of the very simple variety).
Brilliant lyrics, especially the daring sigh in the final quarter. An all round terrific pop song.
This is the kind of thing that, on hearing on the radio, would send me scurrying to amazon to order the CD.

Well-crafted. Song structure is just right. I think you've accomplished your mission: a chart topper style song. I like how you shift the instrumentation as the verses and chorus go by. well-placed guitar riffs, nice accents.
