The Lockmaster's Labrador Dawg

This to me is a show tune, because it is in the middle of a show I wrote about a trip I made in college with friends in a homemade raft down the Mississippi River. There are twenty three locks on the Upper Mississippi. The Lockmaster is in charge of the locks and the locks control the traffic on the river. Anyway, this is sung by a dog more or less who lives at the lock with his master meeting all the crews working the river and trying to get treats. Unless it has deep inner meaning I missed. It's otherwise harmless.

The Lockmaster's Labrador Dawg

I am the Lockmaster's Labrador, my name is Dawg
I like to wag my tail at the passing parade
From little dingies to great big tugs
Pushing great big logs
I know there's probably somebody out there
With a treat for me
Hannah the landlady loves me
And I love her too
She cooks for me and my master
And she'll cook for you
And she looks real good, that's what the fellas say
And I agree
You couldn't take her away
Not from me

Oh, well...there's one more thing I've got to say
Ummm...I'm not crazy bout the cat
She seems to be everywhere I want to be
And Ummm...she thinks she owns the world
And she's fat!

Other than that I'd say my life is fine
I just hope there's more and more
And I'm like a jumpin frog
When there's a knock at the door
Cause it will be another buddy just for me
Inevitably

And I can't wait to face the day
So I sleep with my nose right in front of me
It won't ever lead me astray
And when I wake up, it'll be
Where I want to be
