Mars Orbit Insertion

Description
Picture the first trip to Mars, with humans on board, and they are approaching the time for orbital insertion, a very critical part of the trip. Do they make it?? You'll see around 4 minutes into the mix.......

There were no animals hurt in the making of this mix although I squeezed what I could out of 5 instances of Zebra 2. A sixth instance tripped the machine.

For the moment I'm space obsessed but that could change in an instant.....

As always I'm interested in your thoughts on this mix.

Love it
Feel like I am floating in John Carpenter's Dark Star and then landing on the north pole just in time to face The Thing

Great stuff Paul

Hi Bryn.......
Wherever you were taken, I hope the weather behaved.

I'm waiting for the bubble to burst with these Space Ambient mixes....then I can move on to something else.

I'm also enjoying all your mixes immensely. Keep them coming.

Take care.

John Carpenter;
- yes. Wonderful film scores from a great auteur director. This is very "Carpenteresque". Can I say that? I like the tension created by the underlying rumbling synths and the faint zappy ones. Good stuff

Hi Dava....
Carpenteresque or -ish sounds fine with me.

The tension was the element that threw me towards the MOI picture. It's topical, has elements of extreme risk, and there are lives at stake, so nothing smallhold here.

Take care.

Very Marsyesque
I hope you have heard Heightened's Mars One pieces here on MJ?! They have some things in common: from some very similar sounds to the very spacey feeling they invoke. Great ambient music for sure! (Still not quite certain what actually happened around 4 minutes, but...) Take care.

Hi Henke.....
I did hear the pieces by Heightened, as they were uploaded and I'll have another listen over the next couple of days, to refamiliarise myself with them.

At four minutes there is calm, and the reason......MOI was achieved, hence they could breathe in before the next sequence of events in the mission.

Take care.

Hi Mark.......
Mars was big a short while ago with the music of Heightened, link in Henke's comment, so you may want to listen to these pieces if you haven't already.

There may be more from me on this subject, but I don't have much idea where I'm going with my next piece, so it could be a while..

Take care.

Space obsessed
What could be more fun? Ooooh, orbital insertion. You're speaking my language. Where's the pic? The robotic sounds capture the setting quite nicely. And yes, that Zebra is really a Hog, a CPU hog. Classic Reinholt chord changes. Much enjoyed.

Hi Duane......
The picture.....I never thought to put up with the music. I've done a bit of Googling and there's nothing, apart from abstractions, that I would put with this piece, so I'll leave it until next time.

I love Zebra 2 and hate it at the same time!!!! I guess I'll just have to multitrack more than I already do, and put them together in Reaper.

My next piece could be about the background radiation, the remnant from the 'Big Bang', so be prepared for more astronomical abstractions.

Take care.

take your time in space
There's a bit of gentle malice in the buildup, possibly the subtle growl and the hypnotic swirling gyroscopic blades in this... this seems to have a very similar ambient chord-hopping thing, like you did in "Cosmic Symphony"... works well.

Hi Eduard.....
Yes, you are correct in your observations, about the similarities of the two pieces. I use a later version of the algorithmic synth for the MIDI sequence that made up this piece, so the programming was based on the same fundamental concepts. It's all space to me.

Thanks for stopping by.

Take care.

Hi Martin.....
Thanks for the compliments. I do try to do something a little bit different with each piece, sometimes noticable sometimes not.

These pieces are run of the mill Space Ambient with an edge. The edge being whatever I can add to the genre-specific soundscape.

Take care.
