Paddy sent me this tune last week and asked if i'd like to collab on it. He had the basics of the song pretty much finished - drums, bass, rhythm guitar, lyrics - so I threw the mp3 into GB and tempie-fied (fried) it. Which is of course the short story. The long story is that musically and conceptually i just really fell for the tune. It's kind of a commuter love story, you know that girl you see every morning on the bus and she looks and you and you look at her and you wonder 'what if' and maybe you see her around other places too, out at lunch or whatever and you always make that brief connection...so there's that, but there's also this great and honest self effacing aspect to it, very Springsteen-like, where the character acknowledges that he'll never get to know the girl in any deeper way, because he knows he'll never take it further, he'll always be too shy or whatever. And of course the music behind it all is that great straight ahead 80's English beat, the real emo lol, the stuff i used to mope/hope to. So i had the really simple job of interpreting an already great song. I added the usual Tempie stuff, and I had a lot of fun, and found out that when you mix Paddy and Tempie you get something that sounds like Snow Patrol, which I think is pretty cool. So thanks to Paddy for allowing me to turn his tune into Frankenstein.

Lyrics
riding every day on the 53
she's staring out the window
she's smiling at me
but my face turns red
and i look away
cause i've got nothing to say
and i'm guessing that she works in a bank somewhere
with her pretty floral dresses
and the pencil in her hair
and i'm guessing now that she hates her job
and she cries about me
What if we took a chance, Metropolitanne?
taking out the trash on a busy street
imagine my surprise when who'd i meet
it's Anne one Tuesday night in Cambridge town
hand in hand with her man
and i'm guessing that they've been together for a while
cause she doesn't look at him
and he never cracks a smile
and i'm guessing now that's the way it's gonna stay
cause i've got nothing to say
she's staring out the window
she's smiling at me
but my face turns red
and i look away
cause i've got nothing to say
and i'm guessing that she works in a bank somewhere
with her pretty floral dresses

Yes getting the Snow Patrol thing around the chorus. Good story-telling in such a short space (doesn't feel like over 4 mins).
Drawbacks I'm afraid are the synthetic horn sound/keys could be much punchier for me, given that they are placed in the chorus. And the sudden ending on fade is
However, all that said, it's very OTM* and would sit well in any pop/rock/alt playlist, so for me it's another DL, thanks!
Collabs are great, eh?
