To me 'Metropolitanne' is one of those songs that is immediately familiar. Paddy wrote a damn catchy song, and when 'tempified' with Craig's trademark style, a smash hit was born and I was smitten. I had to cover it.
I had a slow, emotional quiet acoustic thing in mind, but soon found out while recording that it wasn't going to work. So, I let nature take it's course and this is the result. I still like their versions better, but this was loads of fun. I stuck pretty close to what tempie did for the vocal delivery because it was so perfect, and tried to interpret some other little things that made the song so cool.
Thanks for giving me the OK to cover it fellas. Hope you like.
*I actually do ride the train to work every morning and the pic is of a girl that put a newspaper over her head while catching a few z's. Thought it was appropriate for this post.

Lyrics
riding every day on the 53
she's staring out the window
she's smiling at me
but my face turns red
and i look away
cause i've got nothing to say
and i'm guessing that she works in a bank somewhere
with her pretty floral dresses
and a pencil in her hair
and i'm guessing now that she hates her job
and she cries about me
What if we took a chance, Metropolitanne?
taking out the trash on a busy street
imagine my surprise when who'd i meet
it's Anne one Tuesday night in Cambridge town
hand in hand with her man
and i'm guessing that they've been together for a while
cause she doesn't look at him
and he never cracks a smile
and i'm guessing now that's the way it's gonna stay
cause i've got nothing to say
she's staring out the window
she's smiling at me
but my face turns red
and i look away
cause i've got nothing to say
and i'm guessing that she works in a bank somewhere
with her pretty floral dresses
and a pencil in her hair

.. it's only right that I'm first to comment. Wow! This song has taken on a life of its own. Little did I know when I penned those words last month, as a reaction to finding a chord progression on my hard drive that I'd not yet done anything with, that this song would end up reaching so many people.
Ridd you've dine my little ditty proud. The vocal delivery is fantastic, the musical arrangement fits so well and yet it's recognisably still my song.
Excellent work my friend. I feel like a genuine songwriter now!
