When Is The Day? (Woodstock remembrance)

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
I originally recorded this song for Feter's MJ Woodstock festival 2008. Reposted as a remembrance for that MJ festival and for the one 40 years ago. A favorite of mine that, for me, captures a moment in time when I was 17 year old:

Fictitious scenario: Richie Havens was hung up back stage waiting on his percussion people to arrive, so they pushed me out onto the stage for one song... as I looked out at everyone, well, it was quite a sight. A mass of humanity, mostly young, some yearning... hoping for something better. Others not sure what they were doing or where they were going... everyone a bit wasted... Well, I just starting playing my guitar, and this is the song that came out....
[special thanks to John Sebastian for sitting in with his harmonica]
Song art is of John Sebastian at Woodstock.

vocals, guitar, harmonica: Jack

Lyrics
When will the sun of righteousness shine?
When will truth come to each and every man?
When will the wolf lay down with the lamb?
When will justice come to our land?

Refrain:
I hear the cry of the widow in the field
She's gleaning the sheaves from the reapers
Where is the one who will reach out his hand?
Who is the weak sister's keeper?

When will the hunger for goodness be filled?
When shall the meek find reward?
When shall the sad come into their joy?
Tell me now, when is the day of the Lord?

Refrain

I hear a song, I see a hope
I feel a love born of compassion
Now is the time of fullness therein
Every man his brother's companion
Everyone his brother's and sister's companion

Your idea of the festival...

Is what sparked the making of this song. So, I thank you Feter for the inspiration. It was a great MJ festival and fun to pretend to be there on Yasgur's farm.

Oh, yeah
Glad you re-posted this. Feter's MJ festival was a lot of fun, and a revival is a testament to what lives on in our hearts for 40 years.

I can fully understand why you would peg this as one of your own favorites....

Well....
When you reposted your updated song, that gave me the idea. So thank you for getting the ball rolling to mark the 40th with our songs of last year's music-fest. Best to you Harold.

Very much
captures a Havens or Stills from 40 years ago. Great simplicity in production makes for a very effective tune.
Dadai.2 said 2868 days ago (August 16th, 2009)
Glad to hear...

I was trying to catch the flavor of Haven's frenetic guitar strumming... so it's nice to know that something of that came across. Thanks for the nice comments and visit.

Ahh, a blast from the past
We're glad Richie took too long, so you could perform. And we all know it was you playing the harp, so don't be modest. Questions, questions, and all will be answered one day.

late again...
Yeah Richie was a little late as usual, giving me my big break. Too bad I didn't follow up on it... ;-) I had to give John the harp credit in order to get permission to use his picture for the song art. Heheh... Thanks for the visit Roxylee.

Confession
I only commented on this one to see a spinning "3" on your profile page.

But since I'm here: what time exactly does this one belong to? ;-)

Lovely vocal performance.
