Description
I originally recorded this song for Feter's MJ Woodstock festival 2008. Reposted as a remembrance for that MJ festival and for the one 40 years ago. A favorite of mine that, for me, captures a moment in time when I was 17 year old:
Fictitious scenario: Richie Havens was hung up back stage waiting on his percussion people to arrive, so they pushed me out onto the stage for one song... as I looked out at everyone, well, it was quite a sight. A mass of humanity, mostly young, some yearning... hoping for something better. Others not sure what they were doing or where they were going... everyone a bit wasted... Well, I just starting playing my guitar, and this is the song that came out....
[special thanks to John Sebastian for sitting in with his harmonica]
Song art is of John Sebastian at Woodstock.
vocals, guitar, harmonica: Jack

Lyrics
When will the sun of righteousness shine?
When will truth come to each and every man?
When will the wolf lay down with the lamb?
When will justice come to our land?
Refrain:
I hear the cry of the widow in the field
She's gleaning the sheaves from the reapers
Where is the one who will reach out his hand?
Who is the weak sister's keeper?
When will the hunger for goodness be filled?
When shall the meek find reward?
When shall the sad come into their joy?
Tell me now, when is the day of the Lord?
Refrain
I hear a song, I see a hope
I feel a love born of compassion
Now is the time of fullness therein
Every man his brother's companion
Everyone his brother's and sister's companion
