Summer Rain

Description
First half of the summer of 2009 saw many thunder storms rolling across our New York landscape. I spent a good amount of time trying to photograph lightning bolts out of my second floor window, while recording boomers with the microphone app on my iPhone.

Those sound bytes became background ambience for a series of guitar-based melodies collectively titled "Summer Rain." This is one of those guitar-nature collaborations.

thunder
I suppose what I really need is a thunder-booming bass guitar.

Where you live in Syria, I wonder if you get thunder storms rolling across the landscape?

concept
I'm thinking, with all of the endless-summer sunshine, thunder storms are a rarity in Santa Barbara. But I know you've been around plenty of places where lightning flashes - probably even at sea.

What's fun about making a song like this is just letting it develop as it wants to within a general structure of storm, then music, storm, then music, and then a little more storm.

The guitar siren
was pretty cool. Havent hear anyone do that one yet. Very cool atmosphere. Would be great in a spooky movie. Feels like a NYC rainy day. Excellent work.

city sounds
Sirens are a regular fixture in the soundscape of this city ... and they seem to keep creeping into my soundtracks.

Thanks for listening and commenting on a bunch of my songs. I intend to check out your postings here on Macjams.

Conceptual art
The conception is the easy part. The execution is where heavily falls the shadow.

The idea was not to perfectly mimic nature, but rather to be suggestive of these landscape-rolling storms. So the guitars, hopefully, resemble elements of thunder noise and lightning flash and the percussion, perhaps, suggests the dance of the rain.
