Description
This piece has had an interesting evolution. I wrote it 10 years ago for my daughter as she entered a new relationship, one that seemed to have fledgling promise. (Ultimately, she met the man of her dreams, they got married, have two children, and all is good.) About a year ago, I sent it off to Gail (http://www.macjams.com/artist/gail60), thinking of a collaboration. She graciously put down a vocal track and then, with the pressures of work and other commitments, I promptly just sort of let it slide. Three weeks ago, Jack Hemby (http://www.macjams.com/artist/davisamerica) dropped me a note about the piece. Apparently Gail had sent a copy to him months ago. With Jack’s encouragement (and the offered producer help of Eduard (http://www.macjams.com/artist/drakonis), I reorchestrated the number and sent if off to Gail. A bad toothache put her on the sidelines for a week or so, but then she nailed a wonderful track that she sent off to me. I fully intended to take Eduard up on his offer to mix this because I didn’t think I was capable. However, I took a stab at it…and another…and another. Gail supplied a new vocal that we had discussed via e-mail and we began the back and forth that such a collaboration would take. I didn’t mean to leave Eduard out of the loop (he’s such a generous and gracious guy!), but I had fun gluing all the parts together and mixing it in my little studio. … I am amazed that all of this comes together because of Jack’s love for the number and his insistence and encouragement that Gail and I team up. Ed has also been a great inspiration to pull this whole thing together. None of us has ever met, nor stood in the same space. What an amazing world we live in where we can create beautiful songs together…And, Gail, I am so grateful for your patience, you willingness to work on this little project, and for the magic of your beautiful voice that brings such elegance and sparkle to my little song. I hope all who hear this will find a few minutes of peace and beauty and hopefulness in our collaboration.

Lyrics
When evening comes, I think of you.
I wonder how you are.
Imagining the day that’s through,
I wish upon a star.
Here’s hoping you will sleep in peace
And wake refreshed and new.
Here’s hoping that you’ll think about me, too.
The miles that part us can’t divide,
The distance can’t remove
The feeling that I’ve found inside
That one day I may prove.
Is it too much, too soon to tell,
Too quickly have I seen?
Or do you understand the words I mean?
I know it’s not the time right now.
We both have things to do.
We’ve shared a little, but we’ve found
Our feelings to be true.
If honesty is all we have,
Then let it be our bond
’Til maybe one day we might move beyond.

This song has always been a pretty song to me and I am honored that you let me sing it. You have so much talent and I enjoy all of your music so much. I am flattered to have any part in this song and will remain grateful. The pleasure was all mine.
