Description

When Ed Hannifin and I go on tour with our Prog-rock band, this will be my solo guitar feature.(Actually part of a 1 1/2 hr suite entitled "Galaxies Collide"-you HAVE finished writing the other 1hr and 26 min haven't you Ed, we are under contract.)As I play this piece a giant amoeba will float above the crowd (NOT negotiable- part of my artistic vision)The improv part in the middle is designed to give the percussionist time to tune his 14 tympani drums.

Spectacular playing, interesting and unexpected direction, gorgeous tone, and an overall gem, just like the rest of my Ibstrat collection. Thanks for letting me put this on my iPod in my Mark Stunkel playlist, which is ever-growing.

This community is *very* fortunate to have a musician of your caliber offering music to it (and offering unreasonable, non-negotiable demands to one Ed Hannifin).

Amoebas of this world...
...UNITE. Mark, you and Ed deserve each other: two fine musicians... At 1:30 — what fun you are having. ... I somehow enjoy the slightly muffled sound in this recording. It's a little under water, where it should be. Wow. You have some fancy-flyin' fingers here. This is such a cool improvisation. Completely spontaneous and immediately accessible and enjoyable. Bravo (again and again). You never disappoint with your verve. ... Cool chords around 3:45... and the recapitulation is the perfect finale....Oh, oops. It just...Stopped! ... You might consider a fade into the depths with a gradual fade into reverb Neverland. My only nit.

	Slightly muffled I noticed after I recorded it that my tone control was off- it sounded kind of cool so I left it.The abrupt ending should be followed by the cheers of thousands of screaming fans.I would have added that in but I don't know how! Check out my latest song called Blues in Bm

just like your playing here. Now if Ed would hurry up with that little bit of work he needs to do, you guys could go on the road on schedule.

Interesting effect on the guitar, almost makes this like a dream, which I guess one could classify it as, although I won't say what kind of dream it is. ;-)

I'm not taking you seriously...
...until I know for sure that you have purchased a cape... And grow your hair out a little, Mark...

As for the remaining hour and twenty six minutes, I envision one perfect note... played by you.... a whole note so whole that it redefines wholeness... maybe a 'black whole' or 'singularity note', which, when played, sucks adjacent galaxies into its event horizon...

I'll be out at the mixing board, manipulating the house mix and playing weird synth and effect bits, which will be my contribution... As singularities can be unstable, I'd like to be paid in cash...

I really like this, Mark....
I was getting some crackling on first listen, which may be 'cause I had a lot of RAM tied up in too many open things... Once I downloaded this, and once Karen stopped using our brand new cold fusion powered vacuum cleaner, I really appreciated the subtleties of this, both in terms of compostion/playing and in terms of really neat tone...

Sounds great in headphones...

Grand piano
I heard this the day it was posted, but I had to leave before I could comment… What I mean is that I left a comment, but the dog ate it… That is, a grand piano fell on my head as I was in the process of commenting… yeah, that's the one, I think.

In any event, it was interesting because I had just listened to Bob's (guitapick) submission that day, and said that it reminded me a bit of Leo Brouwer's music, and hear a bit of that in the arpeggios of this composition, although it's pretty subtle. In any event, this is a very fine composition, quite original, and highly enjoyable!

	I actually was thinking of Brouwer when I wrote this.I love his guitar writing, he comes up with some amazing sounds using shapes on the fingerboard- a kind of jazz/rock influenced Villa-Lobos.I would have played it on a nylon string but my left hand seems permanently averse to acoustic guitar playing. 	Great stuff Your style (and your taste) are recognizable, but I haven't heard this direction from you. No jazzy chords or stride/ragtime playing, but more single line work where the delay and reverb sort of provide the implied polyphony. Bit like Bach's cello suites.
