Lyrics
hey you with the classical look
with the candle and the book
can you help me bring this thing to life
back under the year of the rooster
what mattered most don't matter like it used ta now,
ah well that s quite alright
cuz the end of every scene just fades away to aubergine,

aubergine

along the way i guess i learned a thing or two
except who iam or what to do
it's why I walk around confused,
but I know what I've seen, it all fades into aubergine
aubergine.
can anybody tell me what does it take
for you to get wise, realize a moment of grace
does it have to come along and kick you in the face
maybe it will, if you're lucky.
but whatever, colour this one aubergine

Feeling Classical
Nice genre meld, the vocals push the piece along pleasantly. Great job on the guitars, recalls Skunk Baxter. I sure you know that...
Thanks for sharing.

skunky
I hadn't thought of Skunk Baxter as a conscious influence, but now that you mention it, the lead guitar tone (from my pod 2.0) does sound a bit like his amazing solo on "rikki don't lose that number"..... I don't have those kind of chops though!
thanks for listening Daug!

Guitar scoring
Oh yea, this is how the SD records with Skunk are arranged, steel weaves in and out...he played both...

Like the different sounds to this. With the steel, combined with the pop. Cool track man! Thanks.

I prefer eggplant
Like how this weaves in and out with different styles.

Have to say this is one of the best I've heard in a while. This has something special to it.

I really wanted to think of another title for this one, but that one popped in and wouldn't go away. for better or worse, probably worse.... :)

Jangle
Brilliant tone to the guitars, the arrangement made me smile for some reason....perhaps the perfectly placed jews harp? Very nice.

fantastic.
A little bit of this... a little bit of that. One killer song. Tempie is going to flip for this tune when he crawls out from under that rock. When you sing "Maybe it will" in the bridge you do a descending little arpeggio that's simply sublime. I've been waiting for a new one from you. No disappointments per usual.

arpeggio
thanks for noticing the arpeggio... I was thinking to myself, there's way too much strumming in my songs. so I inserted a 1.5 second break from all that strumming.
anyway, really glad you liked it!

getting wise...
dude when I heard this i got that feeling that i've only had maybe a half dozen times in my life, like when I first heard pavement or firehose or the beach boys...this tune is the audio incarnation of the IDEA of pop music.

strangely two-faced
One moment there's a heavy guitar riff, the other moment it sounds like good old Steel Dan, when the pedal steel comes in. I had to get used a bit to the switches - and when I was, I found it's a nice piece of music. I like the various guitars & the vocals. I'm not a native speaker of english, I don't know if there's a common expression about things fading into aubergine. Any way, I love that line.

aubergine
the lyrics to this one are a bit nonsensical... chosen mostly for sounds rather than meaning.
people would look at you funny if you talked about fading into aubergine LOL!

What a cool concoction.
What a great, jangle-pop-shred-steel-twanger thanger! The harmony vocals are great as is the full arrangement. Classic and tasty all the way through.

Interesting choice of instruments. Cool song too. Would be country if not for the occasional heavy chords.

I dig the mood of this song - great guitars and vox. I especially like the mixing and how the different parts weave together - great clarity. the drums sound excellent.

mixing not my strong point, so thanks for the encouraging words.

Love the jaw harp thrown in there! The vocals sound really tasty but I had a hard time hearing them. Bring up that vocal level. Awesome pedal steel and guitar playing. Very interesting track!

again with the awesome!
I like the way you break things down for the solo, the snappy hi-hats at the start and the end of the solo really sell it.
the pedal steel and jew harp were interesting choices that really work, I'm very impressed with your stuff.

This should completely win some award for best arrangement. The pedal steel meets over the top heavy power chords is awesome. And the changes throughout are marvelous. Just a great song!
