Tandernaken (Henry VIIIth)

Description
Various composers have made settings of the 15th century smash hit Tandernaken (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tandernaken). They have in common that they can have rhythmically very independent parts. The idea is that the bass holds down the harmony, while being of course melodically interesting; the actual melody is in a middle voice, and the top voice plays some wild improvisation over it.

I'm playing one of these Tandernaken settings, written by or at least attributed to Henry the eighth, with a local ensemble, Passing Measures. But I need practice, so I thought I'd record the backing tracks so that I could play against them. And then things got a little out of hand....

English Prog Alert
From the sound of this, I am guessing you had great fun making it. There will be suggestions it sounds like Jethro Tull, 'cos it's reni and has a flute, ah...those voices!
Sounds like you maybe onto something you can dig into! Line on line construction is considered very modern these days, in all seriousness, what a fresh sound. Be encouraged! What else was on the chart in the 15th century?

Very complex interlocking yet diverse rhythms -yet somehow it holds together, and it all works great together. You are seriously good on that recorder. Thanks, I liked this song.

Wow wow wow
The record just totally makes this happen! Nicely done... I was having some trouble with the background at first but then when the recorder kicked in it took off. For some reason I think of Jethro Tull, Ian Andersen, etc... Very very nice Vic!

Fabulous
This is very cool. I am always blown away by your skills as a recorder performer, and your arrangement is also very impressive… You've infused the song with a driving rhythmic vitality, and the vintage synth sounds give it a "Euro-pop" quality for me. Great job here, Vic.

So that's what the hits were like...
There's a ton of activity in this piece - it's really quite amazing on many levels - your recorder playing, the complex bass line, the mix with snippets of recorder to the left and right, and all wrapped up in these energetic synth and drum lines that make this treatment fresh and fun.

Outstanding work here Vic.

Cheers,
Doug
