Lyrics
Dance with a stranger. [written February 2009 by JJ ]

You took a chance and found a way,
Into the madness of today,
Your eyes were blinded by the light,
Your chances never more than slight.

You set your sights and broke a rule,
Thou shalt not kill even a fool,
A lesson learnt a little late,
The line is thin from love to hate.

If you dance with a stranger never show them how you feel,
Be a dog in a manger, let them think it’s no big deal,
You laugh at this and smile at that,
Forget their number where they’re at.

The final wait when time is still,
A time to die a time ti kill,
Behind closed doors the chosen few,
Will do the things they always do.

If you dance with a stranger never show them how you feel,
Be a dog in a manger, let them think it’s no big deal,
You laugh at this and smile at that,
Forget their number where they’re at.

Hello Feter, I can't have logged on here for four or five months at least so I thought it was about time I paid a visit. Glad you like the song, I wasn't going to do any writing at all this year - you know - have a bit of a break but the germ of this just seemed to appear out of no where and I couldn't resist working on it. Ta for listening

Well baste my dumplings !
If it isn't me old mate Lengold....... Hi there Len, good to hear from you, sorry about the download problem, I have now corrected it. My fault completely, you see I can only read and write in Welsh so I have to have a special translator to do all the technical administration side of things for me and it seems he misunderstood some of my directions.

Seriously Len, thanks for listening, it's much appreciated.

great song Woofer !!!!
neat song, you really did a great job on vocals. i also love the backing vocals. the lyrics are cool and even cooler given the real subject matter. i love the chorus with the harmony parts. the solo spot in here is perfect you really nailed it with the piano/guitar bit. it's very poppy....sticks in you head..alot of fun. Great Job Woofer!!!

Lovely rockin' song. Your vocal style reminds me a little of Thunderclap Newman. Pleasing chugging groove and catchy chorus. Love the backing vocals and slide break. Faved, for sure.

Love story songs...
And possibly the best description in the world: "she shot someone who looked like Alan Partridge."

This is really good. I thought of it as half Robyn Hitchock, half Cockney Rebel. Loved the backing vocals.

Am I allowed a nitpick? This is probably too weird a thing to say, but I didn't like the "dog in a manger" phrase. It rhymed but it didn't work for me because a) she's not a dog. b) a dog in manger makes a fuss rather than knuckles under... if I understand the fable. But fxxx it. Great song.

I'm pleased you liked it, and thank you for your comments and yes of course nitpicking is allowed, good criticism is always welcome.

Just to clarify my meaning though, the phrase - be dog in a manger wasn't meant to suggest that Ruth was a dog so to speak! - I must make that very clear -it was intended more as advice for a person in similar circumstances, to maybe be a little more awkward when it came to probably the only thing that someone like Alan Partridge would really be interested in. I suppose possibly, dog in a manger has different meanings in different places but I think generally it means - someone who keeps something that they may not really want themselves in order to prevent anyone else having it. when I wrote it I didn't check on it's true meaning, I just assumed that was what it meant.

Thanks again.

ps. love your avatar......reminded me a bit of Charles Peace.....going on memory !

Good song woofie
As always an offbeat subject wrapped in a glorious package. The essence of good pop. Nicely done, John. I especially liked your harmonies in the chorus. The woofer touch.
