Description
This is another song I wrote based on a poem written by my father. These lyrics are very typical of his political sense of humor. I happen to agree strongly with him on this point. We, as a country are so polarized by our two party system. The fact is that most of us are really in the middle of the political spectrum.

Lyrics
Moderation

A book can be open or closed,
like a mind can be for or opposed.
While a closed book has nothing to say,
a closed mind isn't limited in that way.

It's amazing to me how verbose it can be
when so little it says it correct.
But give the devil his due, though his facts are few
he can shout with fanatic effect.

Some people see things black and white,
everything is wrong or everything is right.
What happened to all the colors in between,
Like shadows of grey and blue and yellow or green?

You look at our nation and see moderation
is very much needed today.
Consider each side before you decide
just what it is you wanted to say

I think it's best if the far right and far left
would agree to move over a little
Give people like me the room to be free
and enjoy the space in the middle.

Some people see things black and white,
everything is wrong or everything is right.
What happened to all the colors in between,
Like shadows of grey and blue and yellow or green?

Glad I stopped by
I'm reminded of a sign that's posted in a small coffee shop above the counter where the "old timers" met every morning for coffee. "Often in Error - Never in Doubt!"
Great tune - much enjoyed.

Always liked the lyrics to this one.
My dad had quite a sense of humor. This was a consistent theme of his. As Bud says, "Often in Error - Never in Doubt". Very funny. Of course, the truth is you can go too far. "Just because you have an open mind doesn't mean you have to have a hole in your head". Not sure where that quote is from, but I'll try to write a song around that one someday.

Ann Colter reviewed
When I opened this page, and ad for Ann Colter's latest book appeared at the top right banner area... thought that was kind of funny, ironic, considering the lyrics. Altho the harmonies chosen are inventive and work, there are moments one or more of the voices slide as if singing solo and create a sense of being out of tune; also, the vocals sound as if in a different space sometimes, slightly more room and lacking EQ low-mid depth. Still, I like this. Sounds a bit like it ends half way thru, waiting for more.

Shades of yellow: the politics of fear?
Shades of green: environmentalism?
Shades of grey: the retired crowd?
Shades of blue: everyone still holding their breath?

Way cool that you are using poems written by your Dad. Father/Son collabs are marvelous. Thanks for that.

For some reason, I thought of The Cars in this tune.
