Description
B at particledots_collab_box made it possible to post this piece. My hat if off to him!
B compressed this file to get it under the MJ buffer. This is 4:09, but was over 40MB originally. Being unable to get this compressed small enough to post with any quality audio, a piecemeal approach was demanded. I will leave the "uncompressed", part one, up and you can compare the two.
I am very upset with having to post inferior versions of this material due to buffering issues...
This is the most complex piece I have posted since "Double Daugbird."
Part One:
Three is repeated in various rhythmic settings. 6/8 then 3/4 and swinging very hard if you have ears for it. Lol. The phrasing in the bass is "New Jack". The keys are more strict in the time, so this "saunters," no shuffle! The percussion has "New York" compression to aid in this effort. See a tutorial on YouTube, because I can't explain it, but I know it when I hear it...
Loops were used for the percussion tracks, little penciling was done.
The guitar solo features attempts to divide the time in threes, moves around the true downbeat and converses with the horns at the same time. Notice triplets were avoided? All the guitars and horns were first takes no redoes, cause I was playing as I heard it...the keys are another story, I had to piece those together. All the accessories are unique, the "laugh" is a take on what should be well recognized by most longtime alternative listeners. Please post if you can identify what well known "laugher" is being parodied.
Harmony is Daug standard, lots of whole tones dissonance. The horn line lives in the second mode of the tonic.
The second and third sections are much more difficult harmonically. If you want to know specifics you can email me. I never quantize anything...the third section is a new harmonic idea for me, a similar setting in part three of "Rehab", but the harmony is moving "away, away, away" yet one doesn't notice because the lines repeat. This idea was first used on Daugbird, but without the root movement.
Section two harmonizes a melody with chords "without harmony". (Try and figure that one out my friends...)
Thanks again B! As I am thinking now, I will not create any new Orchid's to post. I have three more in various stages. It is unclear if I will post them here. This could be your last chance at real Daug Jazz. I hope you enjoy it and maybe have your ears tweeked...
