Orchid and Andy After Party

Description
Dedicated to OuttaOrbit Pat. Safe re-entry my friend...
Usual Daug stuff. How about that half-time feel...
Andy did a great job.
So good in fact, the original plan for this was scrapped...he took it over!
The buffer issue has not been addressed. Simon has of yet ignored my request for a waiver.
This original material sounds awesome, but at this level of file compression you are listening to inferior fidelity.
B at particledots_ compressed the original file. As always my hat is off to B!

I love the shoe!
Wow, you have some neat things in your wardropbe, Daug. I like this a lot, despite the fact that I havre no standards. Thanks.

So right, usual Daug stuff indeed, but that's not bad. Airy middle section is sublime, and when it cuts into the harsher sax solo... awesome.

Wow
is very cool... I could never do this kind of stuff... I'm an old rocker that knows one blues/jazz pattern and that is it! Cool work by all involved!

great sound
this song reminds me of Early Genesis with the sound of the keyboards in the beginning of the song.....then the fade in with guitar....Really enjoyed this one! Loved the horn in the middle then it just gets better...great job!

Hello rac927
Welcome to the Daug House. Genesis here, no, that's Daug, no lead guitar on here either. That lead voice is the Orchid synth, she is on all the Orchid pieces.
I am pleased you stopped by, try some other pieces...

Who knew this would ever turn out like this - compressed or otherwise. Thanks for including me on the project... I needed the stretch.

can never have too many bits
nice pink bits in here, compressed or otherwise. Orchids to the wall, boyz, this is all over... especially that wicked sax, I agree, the orchid bed was wild, but the sax was downright crazy. So, wild and crazy you two are! A very caffeinated morning ride! The initial piercing synth and drums that come in about 0:06 are a little harsh (at least in headphones), but things do settle down after that.
ttfn,
Drakonis

Yes, Harsh
That's Orchid, not the first strident thing she has done. But you survived, wasn't she sweet afterward...
Even a Dragon has ears for the hottie...have to have the whole experience ya know...

a trip
very cool. so much excellent musicianship. keys, saxophone stand out especially. timing is impressive. and the mix keeps you guessing what's next - unexpected and rock solid. found the crash cymbals a little too strong in the mix, but that's a detail. add my hat to the...how do you finish that sentence. hats off! that's better.

Daugrin said 68 days ago (September 18th, 2009)
Hello P
Thanks for the encouragement. This sounds much better without the added compression needed to get it under the buffer.
Without a waiver from the buffer meisters this is the best you can get.
Sorry about the crashes, you will notice that in all my posts. Deters certain borrowing as well...

After party
I love that churning bass line and drum part (crash!). Also really dig the swelling feedback transition to Pt. 2 and sax solo. Awesome solo and percolating organ/synth. I feel like such a hipster listening to this!

Crazy
That's pretty crazy! Lots going on. Love the middle part. The only thing I would change would be the cheap sounding cymbals! I know that the majority of all cymbal samples such!

MR on the scene
Maybe compressing the bejezus out of something like this ruins the fidelity?

TUUUUNE!
That crash is a little sharp, and the sax solo could be lower in the mix, or perhaps just cut back some of the midrange on it. That's my only criticism. Otherwise, bloody killer track, amazing work guys! This is so original and vibrant and... FULL! Great details, wonderful instrumentation.

Very cool
Now this to me is the most standard old school jazz sound of the songs. This one sounds like it could have been recorded 30 years ago. Excellent job on this one. This is my fav of the orchid songs

Daugrin said 67 days ago (September 19th, 2009)
Charles in the House
How those 70's synths would have made a mess of Orchid's voice. It would have taken a lifetime to code the first transitions, all that "feedback" and "chugging"... I can't say I agree with you, no way would I want to make Orchids, experiments, with that technology...this is so easy, three hours in this tops...

Charles
I think you're right about it being recorded 30 years ago... this was all such straight up improv that I wonder what it would sound like then, tonight or years from now... could never duplicate this.... Daug was definitely in the house on this one... what a joy to work on this song and I was very surprised that he wanted sax on it. Very challenging.

orchid plays hard to get
it is a synthesizer playing fast and loose. then the sax plays so tight. this makes every synapse dance. so many notes, so little time. it is breathless. however, it is good exercise to stretch the mind this way. thank you. 0x0

ic42's sensors adjustment needed
The situation is reversed. (Time for that 40,000 mile checkup before you fold up?)
Orchid is calmly running the changes, nothing faster than 5 on 4, at 130 bpm, she uses no tones outside the tonal center of A maj, I think she was sweet on Andy...
Andy is " going for it". He's playin' flurries in and out of dominate tonal center of A flat, during his straight ahead section, he is blowin his "F" like he's gonna explode!
You should have that checked out...you got idiot lights on the dash? They keep me straight...
