Description
I got sober almost 15 years ago; had a little problem with smack. I was dabbling in the idea of getting clean, but never quite got it. I met Jessica at a meeting. She was cute, smart, funny and made being clean look fun. We were inseparable for a couple of years, we lived together, she cut my hair, bummed cigarettes off me and made me feel special. She had beautiful brown eyes and a scratchy voice when she talked. Her proudest moment was when she played drums in a band that opened for Fugazi (I was proud of her).

On Sunday I went to her funeral, she had died of a Heroin overdose. Wasn't really a surprise; I frequently saw her around town and she was a mess. Broke my heart, but if you don't want help: you don't want help.

I can't believe that we'll never see each other again. Even though we hadn't been close in some years, I still had a special spot for her in my heart.

Jessica always loved this song so I re-recorded it. It's classic indie pop, 3.5 minutes of jangle fuzz and harmonies.

Podfarm was acting up, and I didn't have much time, so I had to use the amps in Logic 8. Not good, but it get's the idea across.

Indie Pop At It's Best
Interesting story behind the song. It's always neat to peak into people's live and hear about how certain songs came to be. Very well done. Lot's of feeling in this one. Not crazy about the Logic 8 amps but you're right, it's gets the point across nicely! This is a perfect indie rocker!

thank you
glad you enjoyed. why do the Logic 8 amps sound so bad? I think they are basically the same as the old GB amps (witha couple of mic'ing options). thanks for stopping by.

I dunno!
I have no clue why the Logic 8 amps don't sound that good. I upgraded from LE7 to LE9 so maybe they had some issues with 8. You would think they would be the same though. Maybe something went horribly wrong with their algorithms! I doubt that last part. I guess it will remain a mystery!

It's hard to watch
someone you care about destroy themselves, and not be able to do anything about it Michael, but sometimes that's just how it is. It breaks your heart to see it, and even more so at the end. My condolences on the loss of you dear friend, Michael.

A fitting remembrance for a good friend.

Smack is a dead end road 90% of the time, most kids don't know that when they begin. Song sounds great with whatever you used, effortless and smooth

i'm with you on the "smack is a dead end" comment, although just from being around it so much, I think that it is really more like 95% of the time. not worth the gamble. thanks so much for the listen and the kind words.

Heart Wrenching
Your manner of describing your relationship with Jessica was touching. Life is such a bittersweet, constantly changing (rarely for the better), conundrum; you must let it wash over you and move on over and over again. Tough for most to deal with but impossible for some.

Loved the song, I can hear why she liked it. Very modern and commercial sounding even today. This is reminiscent of "the rembrandts" sound I think. Awesome job and sorry for your loss.

grateful to be here and miss the ones that are gone. So often it feels like it's about vision - either you can see a future or you can't. I like the way you reference seeing in the lyrics. Sorry for your loss Michael.

vox on this, really reminds me of the album by the Fynn brothers, simple but well executed, heart felt story behind the lyrics leeds me to feel it even more. Guitar models could use some tweaks but well played none the less. enjoyed it! Thanks!

Memorial
Thanks for sharing the story and the music. Too many stories like this building up, know what I mean? Looking at the sky... looking out to sea... still easier looking there than down the street, sometimes.
Please consider posting lyrics. I dig the snare & tambourine sounds, overall nice drumming/perc.

Tragic story
But a touching tribute. My condolences.

The tune itself is outstanding. The scratchy bass rumbling around back there takes me back to before I was playing guitar and just wanted to play bass. Great tambourine, too!

brilliant
ah dude you've got so much talent you make me glad to be alive in a world with people who write and record tunes like this and give them away for free. brilliant. you're like the patron saint of indie music.

"life is full of sad stories, but that never seems to make them any more bearable." That's a terrific quote dude. reminded me of that story about the buddha and the woman who lost her son, he told her to take a bowl and fill it with rice received from every family she could find who had never experienced the loss of a loved one, and if she did she'd find peace, and of course she couldn't find anyone so never filled the bowl, which was the point, so hey, buddha, clever point, but if you ask me she should have just beaten the shit out of him with the bowl, which would have done more to make her feel better. Or, written a catchy fuzzy indie pop tune and danced around the house.

sad story
nice song. You have a great way of telling stories Michael that make people stop and take notice. If only one person looked at this and perhaps changed their mind from doing something stupid into doing something productive, we would all live in such a better world and a much happier one. Alas, just another story..... Great Job! So sorry about your friend, and so grateful you are sober. Kudos for that!

you rule
Truly a sad story, but you could look on the bright side, and that is that it wasn't your funeral - you beat it. It's sad someone so close didn't, but YOU did...and she helped you. In my own life I can't relate - it's never happened to me or anyone I have ever cared about, but I can feel your pain, and your music is a great way to heal, to move on. Great job - thank you for sharing.
