Description
This is the 3rd movement from the Sonata in C minor by Giovanni Battista Pescetti (1704-1766), a Venetian composer who also spent a bit of time in England. Baroque artists highly prized contrast, and in this musical work Pescetti contrasts loud and soft passages as well as high and low registers. This echoing of phrases was a particular favorite device of composers working in Venice.
