Description
i grew up in one of those tiny communities where the church is the center of all manner of recreation. 4-H and Boy Scouts met in the basement of the church, we played church league softball, met all of our friends in youth group, you get the idea. anyway this arrangement worked swell until high school and then everybody went to pieces in their own way. my way was rock 'n roll, which meant to most of the adults in the community that i had forsaken my swimming pool baptism for good times with the devil. which was fine with me. here's the story.
musically i was going for that avril lavigne post punk teeny bopper pop sound. i really like that stuff, it's energetic and beats the hell out of the do run run.

Lyrics
we were a couple of hayseeds
beaver and wallys
aw shucks and oh golly
what will aunt b think?
we wanted glory
locker room stories
the kind that would get us dates
the kind you can't find in 4-H
so we cooked up a plan
we started a band
(we asked the devil to make us rock stars)
something witty and sanguine
CVB meets Duran Duran
we learned how to play
we dropped out of FFA
and in our first song
we dropped the F-Bomb
(see you at the rock show)
a couple of short hair
bible club corsairs
first kiss at the county fair
what would Jesus do?
we wanted station
school reputations
the kind that would get us dates
the kind you can't find at 4-H
so we cooked up a plan
we started a band
(we asked the devil to make us rock stars)

... how you came by your talent. a satanic pact.
great song, music and lyrics both. I like the way you concisely put all those evocative sociological details into a funny, entertaining package.
long live rock n roll!
