Description
A change of direction for me. I was playing with Logic's environment and discovered the arpeggiator. Coupling this with Novation's Bassstation plugin and Ultrabeat produced a really nice backing track to work with. The inevitable distorted guitar and some layered vocals followed. Some sparkle was added with a little EXS24 "bells" preset.
Something a little different from Caryatid.

Very interesting
backing sounds... Now you got me wondering... I'm gonna have to go look at the arpeggiator... So much to learn so little time...

This is very very cool! Nicely done!

Arpeggiator
.. thanks Mark. It's opening up a world of possibilities to an electro luddite like me! If you need any help with setting it up in Logic drop me a line. It's all far from straight forward but worth the effort

bells
real interesting listen. definitely a different sound for you but I dig it. those bells sound really rich and i like the melody they're playing. I like the synth in the verses too. kinda drives the whole tune doesn't it? cool song, paddy.

A gamble...
...yeah I think it paid off. I've just realised listening back to it that I'm kinda channeling Dean Wareham in the verses! The bass synth really does carry the verse along, allowing the guitar to act as a flourish rather than the lead.
At first I thought the bells were too much but they add sparkle and help take the song away from typically Paddy fare.
Glad you liked it - love your latest (Fools Forever...)

Different indeed!
But I like it.

Feels good to branch out a bit now and then, and play outside one's comfort zone, doesn't it?

Enjoyed!

Be well friend!

hearts like bells
i like this paddy, i think you should play around in electronicland more and see what happens. you're voice is so 80's it hurts like prom night and no date.

...somewhere between the chills and the church...

Eighties
... I guess I'mgoing to have to come to term with it. I am 80's through and through. I have a few ideas for more electropop but I'm giong to have to create an alter ego. I wonder if anyone wil spot it. Glad you liked the tune. Hearts like bells - sounds like a song title!

Mr. Electro
Very cool departure. Those bells are where it's at for me on this tune. The one nit I have is that I'd like to hear it without the distorted guitar in the verses. It's gets a little busy and drowns out the cool electronic elements you've got going on. But the distorted guitar is absolutely perfect everywhere else... especially right before the a capella ending.

Guitar
... dude, asking me to drop the guitar is lke asking me to cut my arm off. It was enough of a wrench creating chords without strings!! The bells are erally cool though. I have ideas to use them again in a different fashion.
I'll plead the fifth on the verses!

You are much
braver than me - tinkering with Logic's environment.
Your braveness paid off.
Really enjoying the ambience the song generates - quirky but very, very likeable.
Cheers

I grew up in the 70's and 80's in the south of the UK in an Irish family. I had always loved music but was never given an opportunity to explore making it for myself. About 10 years ago I bought an acoustic guitar and began strumming in earnest. To d... [see more]
