Description
On the 17th of October we are having a 30 year reunion for my old class in the "Jes" 'Jesuit College, Galway'. I haven't seen most of these lads for 30 odd years and I am very much looking forward to seeing them again. We had a band going in the last year or so and we were pretty awful, but great fun at the same time, I know we should have been busy studying hard but such is life. We called ourselves... cough... "Dogeared Steel" I couldn't sing then and still can't lol.
The Band, see photo above ahem, on left Me, Cormac McDonagh(Guitar), Ronan Collins(keyboards),Paddy Beatty(Bass), Frank Hanley(Drums)
Two teachers are mentioned in the song, Paddy Holland was our business and accountancy teacher, he was a very nice man who seemed always under a lot of pressure. Billy Greene (Fr) taught us art and well, life and everything. He died last year, he was a truly wonderful teacher and person and I'm sure is remembered fondly by everybody who knew him. He gave me great encouragement when I needed it most.
This song is dedicated to Billy Greene and all the lads in Loyola and Xavier the Jes 1979
Thanks to Brian O Donovan for getting the ball rolling.

Lyrics
The Jes On Sea Road.
I wish I was back in my old school, the Jes on Sea Road.
Irish grammer monday afternoon, information overload.
I'd listen now, I didn't then
I couldn't see the point at all
A waste of time, at least of mine
I had better things to do
Like squirm around and pull faces,
Teenage strife filled my head.
I wish I was back in my old school,
And walk those corridors.
Paddy Holland drills it home
and he throws a wobbler
But he's gone now just like the rest
all the tension and the stress
Some have gone and left this earth
slipped into the ether.
Billy Greene stands in a white light
like a small Rococco god.
He said life was for love not money
Life was for love not money
Life was for love not money
Life was for love not money.
I wish I was back just for a day
In the Jes on Sea Road
Wish I was back just for a laugh.
Nobody said the time would fly
and it's just getting faster
And if they did obviously, I mustn't have been listening.
Wish I was back in my old school, the Jes on Sea Road
etc
