Description

Space Race Challenge 2009

You are waiting in the departure/transit lounge, ready to travel to some far flung planet that orbits around some unimaginably distant star. There are tannoy messages and other ambient noise all the time you are sat or queueing to go somewhere nearer to your starship.

You eventually reach the lounge where you say your 'See you later' to all your friends and family who are travelling with you. The medical teams take over, to put you into your reefer-sleep casket and put the lid down.

You dream, with emphasis on the last experiences before reefer-sleep and the other transient thoughts that surface in your 'twilight' world of suspension.

You then arrive.....but that's another story......

	wow wow - a great interpretation of what it could be like to sleep for 20 years. i'd really need to trust the medical teams to get it right. it would be sheer horror if the sleeper became mostly conscious yet unable to do anything about it. thanks Check out my latest song called One For Me

I'm hopeful that by the time this technology arrives, most of the problems will have been ironed out, but I bet there will still be a minimal failure rate and there will be some unlucky sleepers. This is pretty hypnotic
Right from the start I'm in this tunnel going to inner space. A bit of Dr. Who like imagery going on for me too.

The scary part here is how deep it goes - at least for me. It's not like getting to some inner place of the mind and then touring around to see what's there. At least not until the 3:00 mark, which is a long travel 'down'. I also get the sense that the sounds and sights going past me are somehow also echoes of what is passing the space ship as it hurtles through hyper-space.

Another notch on the post for a winner composition.

Hi Doug......
I can claim to be a fan of the original Dr's from the very first Doctor until the Beeb stopped making it.

You vision for this piece sits very well with my ideas, and I had the feeling of a tunnel when I first started putting the sounds together myslef. The vocals, echoing away, only added to my idea of abstract, flittery thought processes never really surfacing to consciousness.

Irish Immigrantion
In the 1800's in Ireland when folks would immigrate to the United States into New York or Boston, the homefolk would throw them a party and wake knowing that they would never see their beloved again as crossing the great distance would likely diminish their chances of seeing them again alive. This makes me think of what one must have felt after such a gathering and looking into the vast ocean of an unknown future.

I still cringe when I read about what the Brits did to the Irish in those days. I have one word......Why????? Your thought are very relevant to the essence of my piece although the Irish were fully aware but never the less nervous and apprehensive about their long journey to the New World and as you say, the dimension of never seeing loved ones must have really put a downer on their unasked for travel.

	Hi Duane....... All the lack of harmonic development was achieved through chunks of synth stuff never being given enough time to move on, because the LFO's used were really, really at their lowest settings, taking an eternity to cycle, if they ever would, so no real repeats. I think that a result of vivid imagination, massive reading of SciFi novels, science, an awareness of musical sounds and loads of time on my hands allow me to put together one or two of these make believe trips. That and I also find doing this type of music a great challenge and food for my soul.

	Hi Mr D..... I made this mix with three stereo pairs of the same mix. One was left as was, one had reverb added and the third had a stereo widening process added.
