Description
The early morning earthquake when you can't be bothered getting somewhere safe.
My computer is on its last legs, I can only keep it on for under 20 mins. each take was a first take and it's pretty rough, but wanted to stick something up. I've ripped off Strauss...

Lyrics
It's six o'clock in the morning, I'm in bed and the walls begin to shudder. Keeping one eye open, if it stops I'll go back to sleep. People say say the best place to cower is the toilet but risking certain death for an hours snooze seems worth it. Earthquake, it's an earthquake, a friggin eathquake.

When I first arrived here - shaking rooms would get my heart beating. Now all it gets is lazy wariness. Suppose you get used to anything. This old house won't stand a chance in hell if the big one hits today. So dying in bed rather than trapped in a bog is a pretty good price to pay.

The lamp's a-swinging, the telly's rocking, the door's a banging and I'm still sleeping it's an earthquake.

What stands out about this song is that the lyrics work as a narrative as well as a song. Sounds like you could be in a bar telling a story! There is a dry wit here that is very compelling. The light quirky pop music is an ironic contrast to the subject matter of the song

Can feel
the urgency in this at times and the on the scene commentary, brings it all to reality, but with a wry smile on our faces at your lyrics and delivery.... excellent, regards M

Like your quirky, surrealist style. Kind of an old Pink Floyd thing going on from time to time. Thanks for the link in the chat.

Dig this one.

very cool that you got a feeling of an earthquake with the booming drum and half-step chord changes... and dang it is catchy too! Cheers, from another guy living on the other jiggly side of the Ring of Fire... Southern California :-)

Man I always love your stuff. I love the obscure things you write about. Very cool, always a fan. Thanks for the DL. Oh, btw I have been in many quakes living in Los Angeles for 25 years. From little bitty ones to a 7.0 in the valley. Diggen the song.

Well . . .
When you think of it, where are you going to run, so I can really see the logic in this. If the big one hits, its pretty much a coin toss no matter where you are. Cute song.

Well, where can you go?
What can you do ? I am solid with you on this one..I mean I understand the freaking computer problem 'cos I have so many of those that I keep a cricket bat under the desk to threaten it with, so good job on the fast takes...and you're right ...if you are going to get swallowed up into the ground or creamed by a wery fast moving once tall building then you might as well be comfy...worthy of Ian Drury and the Blockheads this one ,laid back and laconic...nice one.

Earthquakes and toilets
Funny you should mention the relationship between earthquakes and toilets. I live in the San Francisco bay area. We had a big earthquake here in 1989. A buddy of mine sat down on his older toilet after the quake and the thing shattered into a million pieces. Water everywhere.

a new puter dude! You are far too talented to be wasting time during reboots! Heh heh... But in some ways it sure put a crimp on your recording style but forced you to make each take count right?

Cool tune!

Keep your 'puter
I like this enforced 20 minute limit; it enhances the Syd-ness of your songs.
By all means, get a new one for your general peace of mind, but this one's not bad at all......

Nice and loose, fun, lots to like. I need to check out your other chunes. But this one's tops!!

If 20 minutes gets you this quality
then what could you do in 10? :o)

Brilliant - just the right amount to carry off your theme and no more, all with a light touch.

I'll go for the extra sleep any time.

Cheers,
Doug

Great bones for a "1st take" or any take.
Great first take, second even. All the raw materials's here. You could massage it -- double tracks, mess with EW and multiband compression, etc., etc., but it's really got great "bones" and comes through very well.

On your PC on its last legs: Get a Mac... you'll never regret it. Your iLife will never be the same. You'll actually LIKE your computer.
