WEIGHTLESSNESS

Description
A day or two before the Space Race challenge ended, I was bombarded with songs from all my favorite artists here at macjams. In the last coupla months, I haven't been at a computer that remembers my 5XA password, so I can't log on during the day and comment like old times. Tonight I'm at my computer and I'm logged in, but can't figure out why I don't show up as "who's online?"Whatever - Miguel and Simon are probably putting together their big MacJams t-shirt order and they tripped over a chord or something. Shut up Bob. I finished a tune that I would've entered into the Space Race if it wasn't 6 months after the fact. I have Lennon714 and Tempie to thank for even beginning to work on this song. They encouraged me to start it and they pushed me through it to the very end. They made me take out the worst sounds you've ever heard and practically wrote the song themselves. Under their unforgiving control I give you, Weightlessness. Thanks.

Lyrics
LIKE A DOUBLE FEATURE WITH A MONSTEROUS CREATURE
LIKE A LOVELY FLOWER IN A GOLDEN SHOWER
LIKE A GRACEFUL MOVEMENT
LIKE A HOME IMPROVEMENT
LIKE A SPINNING ROOM
IN AN OLD CARTOON

WHEN THE WIND IS BLOWING WITHOUT YOU KNOWING
WHEN THE WORLD IS WAITING AND YOUR CONTEMPLATING
WHEN THE BABY'S SCREAMING AND YOU'RE STILL DREAMING

WEIGHTLESSNESS

NEVER PUSH YOUR LUCK IN THE BACK OF A TRUCK
NEVER PLACE A BET WITH YOUR VERY LAST BUCK
NEVER TAKE A CHANCE ON THE VERY LAST DANCE
NEVER EVER EVER EVER SAY "NEVER"

(WEIGHTLESS BREAK)

WEIGHTLESSNESS

LIKE A DOUBLE FEATURE WITH A MONSTEROUS CREATURE
LIKE A LOVELY FLOWER IN A GOLDEN SHOWER
LIKE A GRACEFUL MOVEMENT
LIKE A HOME IMPROVEMENT
LIKE A SPINNING ROOM
IN AN OLD CARTOON

Those singing have brought a whole new dimension
to your vocal stylings - more Eno now than ever - I love it. Great song Bob - loving the asteroids sounds and the whistles - but especially the snotty Eno vocals and wicked synth lines. Fab.

Snotty
Hey bud, thanks for listening. I thought of you and lengold the whole time I was making the music, because of all the percussive sounds. I kept asking myself, "would bud/len allow these echoing whistle sounds and blips? You bet he would (I told myself)"

I never thought the vocals would get your attention. Thank you so much.

Space Ghost
And of course I thought of you, Vic, when I used my very first vocoder effect ever. Tempie heard a preview of this song and thumped me on the forehead and suggested I throw some piled up vocal rounds up on top of each other and some robot vocals. I thought, "Hmmmm.... not a bad idea". I messed with the deep dark vocal effect but it dragged the chorus and made it say WEIGHT LESH NESH. My good buddy and bandmate/little brother Lennon714 shook me and slapped me demanding I fix that shsh sh noise. I'm glad to have friends that don't mind slapping or thumping me or shaking me. I tried the vocoder and I think it sounds cool. I used it very sparingly for added effect.

Weightlessness
In a tin can in the cold dark void of space. The vocoder is inspired, what took you so long? The synth sounds are decidedly retro and the mix is crystal clear. cool illustration, too!

damn that vocoder was a good idea. i mean seriously. love that buzzing synth under the entire thing. i second the snotty vocal praise. also the star wars lasers. altogether a pulsing kind of cool. sounds great on the 1970's 700lb living room "sound system". if i got really drunk i could dance to this.

Robot Dorsey... Bob for short
My favorite part is the synth runs in the chorus. The bring the perfect amount of organized chaos in to the picture. I also like the Jim Croce style warnings of the second verse. You guys should collab on an album of songs about things you shouldn't do.

Why use 16 bits...
.. when 8 bits will do? This is great, has a Tubeway Army feel. Takes me back to 1980 and the assault on the UK charts by endless armies of synth bands. There's just been a documentary on the TV here called "Synth Britannia" all about it - this wouldn't have sounded out of place.
Top work Bob.

Oddly compelling
Evokes memories of some of later Blur's often overlooked songs. Very cool. Trying to figure out keys... intermixing of of minor and major or something more exotic? My music theory isn't up to snuff.

I really like the melody line in the chorus. Alternating up and down moment is way cool.

One thing I was wondering was if you had experimented with putting a bit more oomph in the drums -- they sort of get lost in the spatial music.

monsterous!
Great...I feel you've connected with your roots but are now going deeper into details (vocals, arrangements, percs).

"when the baby's screaming and you're still dreaming" is a lovely line.

Sorry I'm late Bob!
Always love your lyrics (golden shower indeed!).
Love the feel of this - a bit Human League and Tubeway Army. Great percussion, like an old drum machine (aka Phil Collins) with real drums popping in now and again.
Lots of work gone into this and it was worth it. Great stuff.
Downloaded. Thanks.
Cheers
Len
