Sirens-1 w/Alimar

Description
This is the first in a series (probably 2 or 3 more) in a collaboration with Alimar. I have long been a fan of his (well. for the few months I've been a member here at MJ). His song "Sirens" really hit me, but I heard it just after I joined and didn't dream he would let me touch it. Well, recently I got up the nerve to ask him if he would allow me to add a guitar part.

You probably all know this about Alimar, but he is a really nice guy. He was very supportive of the concept and gave me a mix with and without bass. I got it last night and started working on it today. I was immediately inspired. I have only finished working on the first 1:30 of the song, but I'm having such a great time with it I thought I'd post my progress as I get through it.

What I've done with it so far:
1. Added a new bass part. I wanted something melodic that would support what I wanted to do with the guitars.
2. Added an electric piano part to support the bass. This only plays for about 30 seconds or so. It may come back later in the piece. I wanted something that would give my quiet little bass solo some structure and harmony.
3. 2 PRS solo guitars, in harmony.
4. 1 PRS rhythm guitar.

Here is the link to Alimar's remix (the version I started with).

Thanks for listening. Let me know what you like/don't like and help me direct the evolution of this piece. I'll get part 2 up in a few days.

Alimar just posted a really great mix of everything integrated and mixed. Please check it out at:

Prs
Must get one of those, perfect for big hands apparently.
Love those harmonies they work really well. This is a blast form the past eh? You are a busy chap.
I suppose the end joins onto something else.
Always admire arrangements that defy my capabilities, good stuff guys.

Big hands
Tokai, that was the big attraction to PRS from me. I'm 6'4" and a bass player before guitarist. I needed a solid guitar that could take the abuse I give. I tend to use much more force than other guitarists. I know economy of motion is the guiding light, but I like to get physical. My PRS keeps in tune, even though I have a whammy bar on the bridge.

Thanks, Joachim
I like the way the harmonized parts turned out. Most of them were played independently, but the octave parts you are referring to was done with a pitch shifter.

Tonestones AND Alimar...
Now THIS is the proverbial "marriage made in heaven." A prog-masterpiece!

I wish I could let you know what I don't like. Problem is, I love it as is. The guitar work in this is jaw-droppingly good to these old ears.

Enjoyed vastly!

Be well!

I agree
I really like Alimar's writing style and his orchestration is always top notch. I finished my parts last weekend and Alimar is working on the final mix. I love the way this is turning out. Can't wait to hear the final.

Is there any beer left?
Looks like I'm late to this party; is the keg dry? Stever, first-off: you deserve to collab with the best. But Alimar? Effing Alimar? Fear not, you're obviously up to it.

In case you still want ears on this, I'm wondering if you're dead-set on stripping that much honey out of the PRS solos... That's some hard-core treble there. Just wondering, not judging. All in all, some amazing guitar adds that feel organic to the composition, IMHO.
