Description

Late at night, the highways of North America are filled with conversations of truckers chatting on the CB radio. But this one particular dark and stormy night (!!) a rookie driver hears about a dream job any driver would kill to have.

There's only one tiny little detail.......

Love the idea of the rookie driver having to think long and hard about that one, nice pacing on the story, had me listening to the very end, and as always, I'm watching the "play" meter get near the end, and I start inventing all the possible endings that might happen in the last 20 seconds, wondering which route you're going to take, and your ending was PERFECT.

Storytelling
I had this idea in my head for a month but absolutely no time to put it together, but then I got a day off today and went warp speed into it. Originally it was supposed to be an old trucker telling his tale in a truck stop, but I realized it would be much more dramatic to set it up as a CB conversation on the road - the anonymous nature of the voices brings the imagination into much higher gear.

And the ending just happened. I knew it when I hit it - that's a great feeling, isn't it?

	nice Very cool entry, you had me along for the ride from start to finish. Im with Drak, I loved that long pause when the driver asks what cargo he carries. 	Long pauses ...there's no greater device to scare the crap out of someone than their own imagination, and that long pause lets all manner of shadows creep into the listener's mind. Yup
...those are all my voices. Sometimes "Alex The Robot" just doesn't cut the mustard..... (laugh). I've always enjoyed doing voices, particularly villain voices because they get to have a lot more fun. (Think Darth Vader as opposed to Luke Skywalker - Darth gets all the killer lines).

Maybe I should create a fun cartoon villain to menace MacJams City..... maybe a crazed scientist or mad doctor? Hmmm.......

just watch the fine print, right? Seriously, though...........

Once, many many years ago, I was driving on I-79 when I was passed by a big red semi with smoked windows, and the unit number on the trailer was - wait for it - 666. Uh huh. I figured it was just a driver's sense of humor, until I smelled the exhaust from the stacks. Wasn't quite like diesel, more like a sulpher smell.

Brimstone?

Not chuckling quite so much now...... seriously, that actually happened. Never saw the truck again either.

Queeny, you are a woman after my own heart. This Challenge was a complete riot - can't wait to hear the rest of the Hallowe'en entries.... after I get back from this delivery run. Been a lot of bad boys and girls out there, and we're gettin' busier every year.

excellent punchy little tale
This has legs and could be good extended with music and Sfx,but equally good as is as a pithy little 'campfire ghost story'Nice one and thanks for giving us Hallowe'en as you do it....yeah I know it's international and different here and there ...but I have been hooked on the US version ever since reading 'peanuts' as a kid.

Campfire Tale
... if it's ever extended with music, I think someone else will have to do the honours, I think. It's a cool idea - I could hear some delicious electric blues guitar, the kind a guy who'd put his soul in hock to the Devil could play. Unfortunately, that's way beyond my musical league.

Even I Didn't Know
... how I was going to present this when I started recording - started out as a monologue, threw that out. Changed to a first-person story told by an old trucker in a truckstop with a lot of cluttered sidestory - threw that out. Then the real-time, CB conversation idea... and here it is. What I really like are how the silences can be creepier than the words.

Sometimes less really is more.
