Description
a meditative tune for you

straighten out, resolve
calm, relieve
come to rest; fall
make one's home
live in a certain place
make, become suitable for something
perform service
bring to successful conclusion; reach a goal
formally judge
become or make prepared, adapted

i was experimenting with guitar on tape echo, and have a few ideas prepared for a few future songs. one of those ideas got used here.

i was experimenting with a computer program to generate chord progressions. this one popped out as a solution for a sequence of tetrads joined by changing only one note at a time by a half or whole step down. it's an alternation of M7 and m7 chords: Em7,CM7,Am7,FM7, Dm7,BbM7,Gm7,EbM7, etc...

this song is an elaboration of these two things.

Wow, VW!
This was really cool in a warm affectionate kind of way. Really beautiful. Had to download for many future listenings. Thank you very much for that!

Take care.

it is the perfect solution
It does create a slowly "settling" feeling, with a gentle tension that pulls us down to the next step. The light echo during the first 10 seconds was confusing, but I soon "settled" into the way the echos add harmony, and it really can go on forever. Now if you couple this with the "Shepards Sequence" (I cannot find a reference to this just now, I have the source code at home) you can create an "aural illusion" of constant descent without ever hitting the bottom.

.
"Shepards Sequence" - i'm quite familiar with it - i did use that concept here! this sequence would have slipped way below audibility without that little trick... in fact, the middle portion repeats a few times, and could have done so indefinitely...

thanks

Really cool stuff. Integration of right and left brain thinking. Like the way the echoes build to create a complex tapestry

Beautiful
Love how it slowly unfolds
from simple tones to
a lush soundscape.

Delightful.

Chords
The chord progressions are very interesting and musical. So a computer came up with the progression? Impressive.

The guitar sounds sound almost like a hammer dulcimer, which is a very enjoyable instrument.

The fade-out at the end is very effective. Makes you want to follow the song wherever it seems to be going.

this is a beautiful meditational piece. the chord progression, at first, felt a little jerky to me but as it continued it became soothing and flowing. the simple synth background chords moving against and with the guitar are perfect in helping to create the feeling of flow. wonderful.

Starts slowly
then builds very nicely. An interesting experiment which works very well.

Eclectic, at best. I learned some music theory at school, and read a ton about it since. I've listened to lots of music over the years. I once played guitar in an actual garage band and actually got paid to play! Once. Although live performance is an... [see more]
