Description
I have always found Bm to be the 2nd saddest of all keys.A little melody with simultaneous bass then jazz blues. Check out the great album "Midnight Blue" by Kenny Burrell if you like jazz/blues guitar.

As usual I love
your guitar skills.... I do find this sounds "set back" almost like you are far away from the mic... It is not bad but I would have loved to hear every exquisite detail and a closer feel would have been nice for that.

very enjoyable piece
Really gorgeous writing and playing here. I agree with Mr. Holbrook, though that the recording is a little muffled (highs are rolled off a little, making this not as crisp as it could be), and the reverb makes this slightly "muddy" sounding, like you are playing in a concrete room. This piece is very lovely to listen to, and could really benefit from being a little clearer.

Oh, yes...
This is very cool. The jazz chords now and again are sprinkles of delight that just give this such a pleasant feel. Your amazing skills on the guitar are much on display here, Mark, especially the clarity of your articulation. The deliberate attack is filled with such security and knowledge of the fretboard. ... I agree with you about Bm and sadness. I'm wondering what your FIRST saddest key is. For me it Fm, probably a bit tricky for a guitarist (unless you fret the Em). I enjoyed this track very much, indeed.
Peace.
Paul

Mark - what beautiful playing (as always). you are such a master of your craft, and it's such a pleasure to listen to this kind of skill demonstrated with seemingly so little effort (i know that last part isn't true, but you make it SOUND like it's easy!) thanks always for your fabulous music on MJ!

Really appreciate the "unexpected"
chords and directions (beginning at :23 or so)--seemed like it was going to be wholly modal/blues and then the borrowings from other keys and alternate harmonies made this tune a lot more interesting!!! Also really like the paoint around 2:15 when you repeat a figure transposed upward a few times...

I hear it more as blues jazz...
It continues to amaze me hearing the things you come up with these moving parts that aren't just patterns.... Tell ya, man, I don't see how you can do that sort of playing without [shudder] PRACTICING.... and probably a lot...

I still remember the day that you admitted to me that you actually know the name of every single note on the neck... THIS is what comes of THAT....'Note knowing' is actually a sort of "gateway drug"... It leads to...jamming...and.... improvising.... and, worst of all....knowing what you're doing....

Great playing as always, Mark....

Ed

Sorry, but I don't find this sad at all.
The key may, at times, sound sad, but not here. This is wonderful, breezy, upbeat and superb: how can that be sad? You sure can play, and that's not sad either.

hook line
Improvising and doing an instrumental piece is challenging when it comes to make it interesting for the listener. You've included a vital ingredient to get me hooked with the hook line you come around to every now and then.

Very impressive jazzy licks you do hereā€¦ and it sounds like they come very easy to you... I bet you've spent some time rehearsing over the years to get your fingers flow this smooth and confident... Bravo!

You're all heart in Bm
Mark, this Bm isn't too sad a sad, thanks to all the color you give it. I'm almost feeling a whisper of the old pop tune "A Taste of Honey" in here... not a downer, just a cathartic moment. And full of heart. As a lowly garden-variety fan, I can only say thanks.

I assume you are saying that
Dm is the saddest? In that I would agree. Just hear my latest for proof of that, lol. Bm is very sad, Dm is sorrowful. Am is kind of happy about being sad. Anyway, nice blues swing piece. Not easy to do with no percussion. Enjoyed it.

Sound already noted
so I won't add my complaints.

Lovely piece! It starts as finger picking piece, but you immediately throw in some jazz chords, and then later there is all sorts of unexpected niceness with jazzy chord melodies (1:55) and what not. Great stuff.

enjoy
the chorus type effect you get on this and mixed in with a dave brubeck type feel. A terrific finger-stapper, Can see Gene Barry danciin down a dark alley on a hit movie. A kind of dancin in the rain without the rain, but a jazz steamy nigh !
