Ther Is No Rose Of Swych Vertu - Anon. 1420

Description
Here is a short little piece I recorded last night using my new Aulos alto and tenor recorders. Each line is double-tracked, giving a nice, chorused sound. The alto sounds rather chiffy, but I hope to correct that as I become better at playing. I chose the Renaissance genre, but this is a bit misleading, as this piece is dated c. 1420 which places it in the late Mediaeval period. And those with a discerning ear for counterpoint will know that these harmonies are of a very early variety. So there it is...
Enjoy!!

Produced on a PC in Reaper.

Love this mode of music
Really a peaceful sound here. Very nice piece. The background hiss is an issue, maybe try recording with the mic level lower and get closer to the mic. Other than that you may be able to get rid of it with a very narrow band eq and noise gate. Enjoyed it. Nice job!

one more thing
if you used compression on this track it would bring the hiss up quite a bit. That also may be an issue. May want to either take the compression off or use a multiband compressor and dont hit the high frequencies.

Thanks for the comments!
The background hiss IS bad on this one, I know. I was as close to the mic as I could get, practically speaking. It's just a junky dynamic mic from Radioshack and not very sensitive at all. In fact, I did use a compressor AND EQ (on the high end) because the mic muffles the sound so much; so that's why the noise is bad... :( I just need a better mic!

Thanks, Feter...
You always have something very nice and kind to say about my work and I really appreciate it. :) I will probably be posting more recorder pieces like this one. I just bought a set of recorders and I'm teaching myself to play them.

Interesting
You have the early idiom down, with the strange cadences that have been in disuse for centuries now.

Sweet piece, nice recorder playing. Please get a better microphone?
