Description
The fifth and final instalment in my "scientist" series. All these tunes are dedicated to my son, who will be a great scientist one day, and to all those men and women who dedicate their minds and their lives for the betterment of others.

There are eleven tracks altogether in this one; nine from the Zebra 2 softsynth, and two Logic bass settings.

Thanks, as ever for listening.

I started salivating as soon as I saw a new davajonah tune.
I could listen to these for hours and, in fact, I will, thanks to your generosity w/ downloads. Did this one come together a little easier for you? I see you haven't given credit this time to the tea and roll-your-owns ;-)

Hi Dave......
I have enjoyed the series and this last piece was a gentle Ambient mix that would allow me to be conditioned to do almost anything.

Good luck to your son. He sounds a smashing fellow.

I have dropped you a note with some Ambient sites/free music downloads as I said I would a couple of weeks ago.

I look forward to your next mix.

Take care.

Paul
davajonah said 2959 days ago (November 8th, 2009)
Thanks Paul
Appropriate use of bell sounds! Didn't Pavlov's dogs have to use bells as part of their conditioning?

My son is actually doing stuff I would have liked to do. I'm very proud of him, and yes, he is a nice guy.

I've read your note and will explore what you suggest.

Thanks again.

Excellent
My wife got me a CD some years ago called Hear the Loon Cry (Loon is a bird, not a lunatic, and the street we're living in is called 'Loon Street') and that sounds quite a lot like this, only there is a bit of loon crying on the CD (surprisingly ;-). What I am trying to say is that this, together with your other scientist pieces, definitely are CD ready.

If I may offer a pennies-worth suggestion, though, it would be to try and exchange solo instrument after a couple of minutes and then let the two come together like now at about 3.25. I love that solo bell instrument, but why give away in abundance, what the listener will set on replay anyway for pure craving? At least it could be nice if you are planning a longer version.

Thanks again for a very tasty piece. (I hope my main keyboard will work again when it has dried up a bit ;-)

/Henke

Loons
We call them "divers" here in the UK. They are very beautiful birds and their cry is haunting, yes. The Red Throated Diver is fairly common, but the Great Northern Diver can only be found in the far north. I don't know the album of which you speak, but your compliment is really nice. I am planning to make a CD of these tunes, which I can post to people if they wish.

You may be right about another instrument, bit of variety! But I wanted to stick with the "Phibes" sound throughout this series. Thanks for your suggestion though, well appreciated.

And you're very welcome!

Woof woof .... grrrrr
The davajonah sound. Again, a very resolved feeling comes through, as if to say "all is right with the world." Very nice dedication, too. Much enjoyed.

I thought you might like the dedication. I really do admire those people. Save maybe the ones who develop weapons of mass destruction and such. My son, fortunately, does not fall into that category!

Generative music?
This almost sounds like one of those "random midi generator gone wild" pieces. Very tranquil and soothing.

Hi there Vic
Yes. Thats how these tunes started life! But they sound nothing like what they started out as. In amongst those randomly generated files, you can often find little riffs to extract and work on. You can then layer in pads, instruments, bass etc. I use the pencil tool a lot, as I don't play keys very well. I move the notes about, chop things up and generally mutilate the original file! Seems to me, having done this, that it's not what you put in so much, as what you take out. The files are often too random, as you say, but the little riffs within are sometimes, with a lot of work, very listenable to. Leastwise, in my humble opinion they are!

Thanks for stopping by.

You really
have developed your own style with these synth melodies and this is wonderful... in fact it has the feel of a film score as it progresses, No one better to dedicate it to than your own son and I'm so pleased you have that faith in him.... that's really heart warming, regards M

Another
beautiful sounding scientific excursion Dave. You certainly have this genre tied down pretty well. You turn synthetic sounds into organic music - a rare talent - and are an inspiration to me to try to move "outside the square" we often find ourselves in. Thanks

This
is very calming and I like the bell timbre. The composition is 'mathematical' and melodic at the same time--like Bach! Nice job.

Nice tones
Love the spacious tones you get from the zebra synth. I tried playing with it, but got a bit confused by the layout. Nice compostion, sounds quite like David Sylvain meets Philip Glass. In a good way.

Stick with the Zebra. It's a beauty for sure. And David Sylvain/Phillip Glass sounds good to me! Cheers.
