Lyrics
November

moon on blue hangs to the west
the sun and the wind try their best
leaves are dancing across the street
naked and bare stand the trees

so the nights are long and cold
you're in november
and the sun it just might show
you're in november
and the wind and the rain and snow
you're in november

huddled in coats suppress the cold
how you can be chilled to the bone
you can feel winter in the air
soon the snow will be here
all your words hang like frost
dreamy haze mist and fog

so the nights are long and cold
you're in november
and the sun it just might show
you're in november
and the wind and the rain and snow
you're in november

shades of gray painted above
taking hostage of the sun
winged flight heads to the south
every year on the same route
watch the season and the change
you know it's november again

so the nights are long and cold
you're in november
and the sun it just might show
you're in november
and the wind and the rain in snow
you're in november

Driving rock tune. The vocals are strong and the production is crisp & clean. Absolutely great work. I also like the artwork you used for the song. Cheers / Mike

your songs all have a fairytale quality, they seem to exist outside of the average day to day thing. Don't know what it is exactly but it causes a cool "throwing out experience", the way that Joseph Campbell used to describe medieval churches, you can't listen to one of your tunes without feeling that you're taking leave of reality for a bit. Anyway highlight of this tune is that great solo that sounds like early eddie van halen meets alex lifeson, or soemthing, and the also great buildup at the end that fades to acoustic. it seems like you put a lot of thought into this composition-wise, as a result there's lot's here that makes you want to rewind and take another listen.

dear mr. fantasy, i guess i never thought of the songs that way. but there is a little trippyness to them. i thought the end of the solo sounded a bit VH (the other VH) since it was some whammy bar manipulation, that was a second take. I thought approaching the build up ending like a storm coming in. i was going to add some synth white noise, but just didn't get around to adding it.

and gorgeous!

That intro grabbed me right away. The melody and the way you sing it are just right for this song. Enjoy very much the change ups from acoustic to electric and back, and those icy cold background lead riffs rule.

My new absolute fave. (You have topped yourself yet again!)

Be well friend!

Forgot to mention how much I dig that lead solo. What Craig said above re Eddie Van Halen and Alex Lifeson about sums it up. You rock my friend!

the dual guitar intro really kind of set it up for the vocal melody. I tried it several different ways and this is what i came back to in the end. there was more acoustic through out, but i decided to chop a large portion out and keeping only a few parts in.

It would be great if you could include them in the forthcoming Vic Holman Boxed-Set. That way, friends and fans could experience a bit of what might have been...

Such a clear production Vic!
I remember the northern winter arriving - I loved the changes of seasons when we lived in the north of England, but winter coming was always a bit of a bummer.
Great tune in your inimmitable style. I can't believe what clean productions you are getting - must have a chat about your process sometime.

Tasty mid tempo rocker!
The guitars are runchy but nothing loud, the voice shows emotion but doesn´t exagerate. There is a perfect interaction between the voice and the instrumentation.
Loved the ending too.A sure downlolad.

i had most of the music recorded around 3 to 4 weeks ago, put it aside for a while then added the guitar leads then let it set again for a while before adding vocals. normally i don't do that thinking i'll loose the vibe, but it all came out well in the end.

Very nice
Up north as well, and November is pretty spectacular season up here, followed by a much spectacular October. You've captured it very well, both lyrically, as in performance. I enjoyed the vocals very much, as well as the melodies. It almost has a bit of an Irish tone to it at times.

Pre-winter blues
I wish the cold weather was shortened down to one month! who would need the tropical south in such a situation? The song does a good job of putting or off putting you in a november mood, especially when its raining here in NY today. I like the chorus and how you kept everything toned down in keeping with the theme. Another good one!

The rock poet strikes! Rock music is so seldom used to paint the colors of nature. You have done a real good job here. The music suits the season.
Thanks for the treat, (Oh and by the way I really knew I was in November today when it seemed to go black just after lunch. "What! Where's the sun?")

Anthemic
I can't help but focus on the guitars; I dig the compressed, powerful rhythm bed along with al the other acoustic, lead and ambient lead touches you have in here. The midway solo soars over the mist and fog! This is anthemic. Vox delivery's and lyrics remind me a little of classic Moody Blues, in the early days when they painted the most theatrical images.

anthem for post autumn. the music seemed to fit the struggle of nature in my part of the world.

Funny but your description of November differs from mine, as this time of year is the most beautiful in southern Cal. I like the chorus, but I really hear (in my head) harmonies on the word November. Like your guitar solo too. Thanks for sharing yet another VH hit! - Sig

I like hearing...
...other intstruments in there, and I like hearing fewer total guitars at one time, but more powerful and more definite... Like this is stripped down to what's necessary, and powerful...

I like the panning and space, too...

I also think that, melody and lyric-wise, this is one of my favorite Holman songs.... I totally relate to it, as the gray skies and cold mornings and darkness all move in...

Ed
Vic Holman said 2747 days ago (November 15th, 2009)
Thanks Ed
stripped back is true. in the end i cut out most of the acoustic that was originally here. i thought breaking it down and keeping some starkness would be best. even then this did take a while on the panning to find the "sweet spots" for the tracks to sit well. the weekend that wrote the lyrics pretty much had everything weather wise going on. comes off like a day in a diary.

Once the birds move out, the clouds move in. i think they are in cahoots with each other.

great song!
a nice, relatively straightforward rocker with some UK psych vibes. It reminded me a bit of the Bevis Frond (I think I commented that once before on one of your songs?) as always, the care you take with guitar sounds and mixing is very evident and gives a pro-sounding quality.
really enjoyed it!!
