Lyrics
the old calico
acts as though she knows
what's underneath
the river flow

lorena made a scene
drank her gasoline
with a shot of dopamine
cozied up to her routine

its tangled in twine
and dryer than the wine
it breaks my will
redemption is
a little pill

lorena made a scene
took the submarine
at the age of seventeen
slipped away, into a dream

irrelevant
voices in the vent
the whispers that came out
of the lips that heaven sent
blow cold

its lonely inside
were cowardice resides
with fools like me
who never see it in HD

lorena made a scene

irrelevant
voices in the vent
the whispers that came out
the lips that heaven sent
blow cold

you fucking fool

Hi Feter,
Thanks my friend. Music has become somewhat of a frustration lately, because of some problems with my hearing. Its hard for me to have any confidence when my ears aren't trustworthy. Plus my computer was broken for a spell. Though I continue to enjoy lurking around this joint, and Im trying to muddle through with my own work. Thanks for the comment, your words mean a lot to me. Regards

...Too long
Glad to see you back with this amazing reworking! It made my Sunday morning! Lyrics are fantastic, haven't we all known a Lorena in some form or another. What shines on this is your vox, great work!

Hi T-dub
At first I thought you meant the song was "too long" :) .... I came to the realization that my lyrics needed improvement so I appreciate the good word about the words. Hopefully I'll be able to come up with something in less than six months next time. Thanks for the listen.

I think I dated Lorena!
Man, I think I dated here back in the day. I didn't notice at the time because I was the one who gave here all that stuff. Love what you do with your melody coming into the "irrelevant" chorus. It's all there as usual (guitar grove, well-placed harmonies, solid mix). Good one.

tell tale wispers
the chorus is irrelevant, isn't it. (just kidding) ......I was trying to rip off the beatles staccato la las, but
changed them to lie lies. If that makes any sense. Hope you are well. Cheers

Metaphor Parade
The lyrics are great. Smart and subtle. Love the little vibe/xylophone/whatever twinkling around in the background.

Metaphor Pride Parade
On the last version, It was piano, I changed it to some twinkling mallet. I can't help my self from cluttering up a mix. I figure its "my sound".

Dryer Than The Wine
Really great songwriting Matt. I always love your lyrics, but as Tom said, your vocals shine on this. The backups, the harmonies. Man you put a lot into this and you can hear it. I dare say it's your best production.

Good to hear you Matt.

Dryer than the whine
My production value is inversely proportional to my state of security. I kind of stumbled on to something, mixing this one. I was having problems not having enough volume, so I doubled all the tracks and found that one can have a lot more precise control over the mix with more tracks......Thanks
for being a supportive and generous dude.

I tried
to think of a replacement for the cuss word, but I wanted alliteration... and I thought it funny to have a well pronounced and harmonized f- word. Thanks for stoppin by.

Great lyric. Catchy changes and melody. Always love your band sound and vocals. Drums just right and feel live. Are they? Yer my favorite Alt-country MJ artist. Keep 'em comin!

Glad to be
Alt-country, and very pleased to be considered an "artist". The drums are midi loops ,dirtied up with a little reverb. As far as the band sound, well I guess I like to pretend to be a front man, or I like to burry
my vocals in a lot of noise , for camouflage . ;) Thanks for the kind word.

sweet
love the vocals, but really love the lyrics...a lot of people throw out a stream of consciousness lyric when they can't think of anything interesting to say, but it seems to me that this is the opposite of that, the words don't make sense individually but taken as a whole have a real emotive impact that lends itself to the open interpretation of the listener, meaning that the tune seems to empathize with the listener, it absorbs whatever story he/she wants to tell. similar to sloop john b imo. very cool. also really dig the backups.

whoa, intellectual analysis
Your comment is better than the lyrics. I usually don't listen to very many words when I listen to music, but I figured that other people do so I need to improve that aspect. Your thoughtful words are much appreciated.

Great to see a folk
rock sound here at MJ.

Nice Dylan feel to this! Like the way the percussion blends. Nice sync with the vocals and the other instruments.
