Lyrics
was it you, was it me, was it true, did you see, who was free watching me
looking out your window
took a ride someone cried, let him, go no-one knows if he died in the night
falling out your window
you say you’re honest but you don’t know
you’re making hay but sun don’t show

did we fly somewhere new, were you high in the blue of the sky someone knew pouring through your window
silver white on a cloud spreading light all around, what a sight from the ground underneath your window
delude ourselves because we can
formulate our master plan

trying, trying to remember where we went oh so wrong
august to September and all winter long

was it you, was it me, was it true, did you see, who was free watching me
closing up your window
looking back at the scene, glossy black limousine, only you who was seen looking through that window

ash to ash and dust to dust
fruits of shameful wanton lust

lightly dark
Really like the sort of dark downtempo sparse feel of this, nice choice of effects on the vox, great guitar work. Smooth delivery, and your lyrics really are so poetically flowing. Great stuff.

thanks feter. i agree about the drum loop...but i'm rubbish when it comes to percussion. the guitar is a cheapo fender sonoran (it's shiny turquoise-green...the one in the picture).

nice idea
nice, cool mood, good harmony vocals.
the two voices have not always the same length, could be a bit tighter.
I`d wish there came one more part, something more open, more kickin`..
But it`s a very good tune, congrats!!

thanks ingo...you're right about the harmonies...i'm new to home-recording...and thought it was ok to be a bit lazy (i see now that everyone is much more professional than i had anticipated).

What's it all mean?
Even without knowing, I can enjoy a song like this. It has a great feel, and I like the contrast between the processed and natural voice.

Dig the originality of this. You sound like yourself. Love the guitar riff and the arrangement ideas--bringing drums in and out, etc. The remember/September bridge is a great left turn. And what a cool break. Really enjoy your folk/pop sensibilites, and yer vocal chops.

vocal rendition. Takes some getting used to, but it seems to fit your lyrics really well. (Don't know if you are absolutely on pitch all the time...you might check that...esp. the harmonic line). I love the gentle guitar work in this composition. It is as dreamy as your melody line is haunting. It is wonderful to actually be able to hear your words unfettered by over-orchestration. The simple presentation is perfect. Very glad to have heard this and look forward to more as time goes on...Oh, and I DO know what this is about: such an honest commentary about a love lost perhaps before it had a chance to grow — and, of course, now dead and gone, dust to dust.
Peace.
Paul

This is a really cool song with a nice melancholy feel, and as has been said I like the way you effected the lead vocal. I would also agree with some of the comments about the harmony vocals - I think if you tightened them up a bit it would make a real difference in this piece. Nice effort - Sig

Enjoyed the song. No point in repeating again what has been said but I think this song has more potential. I would suggest adding a bit more to it as it goes along but it is fine as is.

Another brilliant song...
I like the radio effect on your voice. It does produce a slight hiss however - you can apply a "noise gate" to that and cut out the hissy sound. Your song writing is very professional - this sounds like something you would hear on the radio. Your lyric writing is great - understated and allusive. Please download your brain...

Applause!
Yes, you truly have a solid footing in the songwriting field and what's more, you are also blessed with the talent needed to finish it from inception to completion. This is one of my favorites from you Julian...it resonated inside me, as do many of your songs--great musician ship and production throughout as well. Thanks again! Michael

interesting
I was listening to "Curtain" on my iPod the other day and thinking that you don't sound like you have a British accent, but I certainly hear it on this one - and if this doesn't sound too weird, I think it adds a cool flavor to the delivery. I love the different treatment of the vocals between the lead and harmony - and the play between the two. This has such a cool, gentle vibe. Great sound choices all the way through and excellent production. I'm not a lyrics person - I barely pay attention to what's being said, but I do pay attention to what YOU have to say - always clever and poetic. LOVE that weebly, wobbly guitar in the bridge. Man, what a great song Julian.

great diversity in your music, I like this as is, I wouldn't change a thing, I like that the harmonies don't line up perfectly and aren't spot on in pitch, a real song by a real singer/songwriter

Yeah, this is slightly different, a bit more minimal. There is a bit of a hiss at the start of the track, but that is no big deal. Great words once again, you are da man.

this is the sort of thing the Beatles could have done. It's so well constructed and performed with the usual clean sound - love the movement. I'm being transported to a completely tension free world. Wondeful.
