Lyrics
I’m Pluggin In
words and music by John Whitehead

I’m pluggin’ in to the power of the one above
I’m pluggin’ in to the promise of eternal love
Gonna get a little juiced, I need a good revival boost
I’ll be walkin’ in glory on judgement day
Hallelulia I’m pluggin’ in

Well, the world can make you sad
Sometimes you feel uninspired
And the weight of obligation
Can make a soul feel tired

I need a hard-wired connection
Grounded in the holy flame
Gonna feel a little surge
From the gospel words and the generator of his name

I’m pluggin’ in to the power of the one above
I’m pluggin’ in to the promise of eternal love
Gonna get a little a juiced, I need a good revival boost
I’ll be walkin’ in glory on judgement day
Hallelulia I’m pluggin’ in

When I find my spirit flagging
And I’m losing all of my speed
I take a look inside my soul
To find a little of what I need

Then I hook up to the current
Turn the amplifier up to ten
And I get a little jolt from the Holy Ghost
And I’m back on my feet again

I’m pluggin’ in to the power of the one above
I’m pluggin’ in to the promise of eternal love
Gonna get a little a juiced, I need a good revival boost
I’ll be walkin’ in glory on judgement day
Hallelulia I’m pluggin’ in

This sounds really nice, John...
A nice airy spread of instruments in the sound field, and a very natural feel to the recording...

I enjoy your singing very much. This is a nicely crafted song, with a real folk/bluegrass/old time/gospel flavor without getting hokey....

Like that graphic element, too...

Ed

Fun little toe-tapper there!
Lay down a well-slapped stand-up bass and You'd have me hook, line, and sinker.

Here on the NPR station
In Washington DC (WAMU) we had "Stained Glass Bluegrass" on the radio every Sunday for many years--I'm actually quite a fan of the genre. And this song is just great...tightly crafted, well-sung and played: what a treat to hear!...

Reminds me
of Ray Stevens "Turn Your Radio On', which was quite a hit over here in the 70's. Love this style, so natural and easy sounding..... great song and performance all round, regards M

Love your
listener friendly and instantly attractive style and this is no exception.I've been playing the piano along with this - a la Floyd Cramer/Georgia Tom - just for fun. Everything here is just right, a nice rich round sound and hooky as hell. This is also vey similar to the Hokum Boys in the thirties, so magnetic.

Your better than a cup of coffee...
to get my morning going. I loved it. This is what bluegrass is all about... fun! And you did it with a Gospel message. If only your amp went to eleven.

Bluegrass, gospel... swing?
You have a great voice for bluegrass - no marbles or broken glass in the way of those silken vocal chords. Likewise the guitar's clear as a bell. And I'd add a touch of swing to the bluegrass and gospel influence here, this really swings.

Run away? No - more like bang down the door
and get me some more. Can't imagine imagine a better genre blend for my sorry soul today. Drinking deep from the well with many thanks. Fine song and performance - and they caught it real well in that studio.

this reminds me very much of Lyle Lovett which is a good thing in my book. I can almost hear the choir in the back ground.

Hallelulia!
Yep: Blospel or Gosgrass. You are such a natural and easy performer that this doesn't hit you over the head but just kind of nudges you a bit. A bit of sense of humor in the analogy helps to make it very enjoyable. Yeah, brother. Thanks.
