Description
Track six on the Steam Pod EP from APOD. Please visit PODtoki featuring Mystified for the complete back story.

The song starts with michael2’s heartbeat file eq’d a bit and then takes off from there with my solo effort at creating a song based on the groove. I knocked out the music in one sitting and the vocals in another – then passed the file as a rough mix to Bryn for final mix and master (this one came fast and loose). He has a great talent for working with vocals and a creative touch with adding subtle synths to make the best of anything that comes off his board – as he did here. Cheers PD.

Lyrics
i don't seem to understand
half the things you say to me
words hang in the air between us
but it's something only i can see
i wish i had an ear for you
or maybe sympathy
i wish you had an eye for me
and maybe you would see
all the miles behind us
and the endless highway up ahead
paved hallucinations strobing fences
fading mountains skies of red
put the top down baby
feel the wind blowing through your hair
i turn to smile at you
but you're not there
i wish i had an eye for you
and maybe i could see
i wish you had an ear for me
or maybe sympathy

This is a grooving number guys. Very interesting to hear how the song became what it is. I wanna hear the other finished songs as they become whatever they become.

Bud, I always love your guitar work. It's always energetic and explosive and tough guy sounding.

Your vocals are really great on this too. You have this darkness working - a Joy Division feel in a way.

Thanks for the download!

Keep up the great work.

My son said the same thing about Joy Division
check the keywords. Thanks for the comments Bob - you know what a tough guy I am. hehe.
BTW - Bryn gets big ups for his synth contributions and mixing.

Wow
Great work. Love the instrumentation. I'm only listening to it on earphones, but I suspect there are a lot more textures then what I am hearing. I like the way the lyrics ride the beat. Nice rhythm.

Thanks Mitchell
lyrics riding the beat is your home turf - I'm very flattered. A lot of the texture you're digging came from Bryn.

Kraut, fritters 'n' dance-punk
What's got krautrock at its foundation, here, gets great accompaniment in that cross-cut saw rhythm electric guitar part that adds some of the punk-dance delight of classic Gang of Four. Feel free to talk about how you got that guitar tone.

bud said 2945 days ago (November 17th, 2009)
The guitar tone is a mix of a Line6 amp model
I can't recall which one - and the grunge guitar setting in GarageBand. Part of the Gang of Four effect which is more prominent at the end was a happy accident. I was editing the guitar track and it slipped out of synch - but I had the sense to listen to it before correcting the mistake. As a result it sounds jerkier than I actually played it. I always make a point of listening to accidents - I'm not that clever left to my own devices.

i'm listening to all of these this morning, then coming back to comment. WOW - i'm kinda speechless at what you guys have done. this one has a significantly different feel, and grabs me the most readily (for whatever reason). this project is just blowing my mind!

This whole project was a great trip
from the very beginning when Michael dropped the beat in the box. These guys bring out the best in anything they touch. This little pop song never would have happened without the whole process.

so there's two very restless minds at work at all times. Thank God for computers and MJ or I'd go nuts. Thanks for APOD too - it's another wall to bounce off of in good company.

Infectious groove
Yeah, it grows on you. And I mean that in the nicest way possible (hehe). Cool guitar work. Vocals. Yes. I like the backing. It's hard to do simple AND good. You've managed that very nicely. Enjoyed.

The groove
I will not be able to shake. Great work here! I really like the guitar effects. The subtle backing is very cool. I bet there are a lot of tracks here, but they sound as 1. Great Job!

When I sent it to Bryn there were only
eight tracks I think - m2's heartbeat, guitar, bass, drums, marimba, morse code, and 2 vocals. Then he added a number of textures and layers to enrich the background and reinforce some of the elements. I'll ask him how many tracks we ended up with. He really made a difference.

nothing better than muscular gang of four type funk guitar and a dance groove. a little tokyo police club too. vocals are great bud, it would have been tempting to stylize vox for a tune like this but you keep them honest and the tune benefits. super cool sound. (great lyric lines too - i like the eye for you concept.)
