Description
Just never could get comfortable with tatoos and body-modification. Call me old fashioned, but I like 'em like God made 'em! Hope you enjoy this, even if you don't agree. (Don't you think Lyle Lovett could record this one? Sounds to me like his style.)

Give Me A Natural Woman

Give me a Natural Woman
Don’t go pokin’ holes in things - don’t fill those holes with studs and rings.
Give me a Natural Woman
Don’t tattoo your butt for me, and leave your back and arms ink-free.
Leave yourself the way that God has made you!
§ Don’t get too skinny, § don’t get too fat!
Leave yourself the way that God has made you!
How can you con- sider that you might improve on that?

Give me a Natural Woman
Don’t die your hair in some odd shade that mother nature never made
Give me a Natural Woman
Don’t hide your face, your lips and eyes in some un-natural disguise
There’s quite enough in life that’s artificial
The world is so hung up on being fake!
I admit I wear a costume - sentimental.
But I hope that it’s a clear and honest statement that I make!

Give me a Natural Woman
Don’t shape yourself with pads and stays, or surgery, or other ways.
Give me a Natural Woman
Don’t follow every trend in sight, but use your brains and do what’s right!
These costumes have their place. I have a few (that’s true)
They tell you what I am (and tell you) what I might believe.
And sometimes nature’s ugly, but it’s true
And I think that everyone should wear the truth upon their sleeve.

You say this paint and plaster makes you feel much better
And self-esteem is great when it’s based on something real.
Don’t sacrifice yourself § to the latest trend-setter.
Won’t you give yourself a chance - I’m sorry, But that’s how I feel!

Give me a Natural Woman?
Like a thing because you do and not ‘cause someone told you to!
Give me a Natural Woman?
Stick to your pri-or-i-ty, and live in simple harmony
Leave yourself the way that God has made you!
§ Don’t get too skinny, § don’t get too fat!
Leave yourself the way that God has made you!
How can you con- sider that you might improve on that?

Won’t you be my Natural Woman?
Can’t you just image that? Happiness is where it’s at!
Won’t you be my Natural Woman?
You and me - won’t it be nice! In our hippie paradise!

I hear the Lyle Lovett
here, per your intro--in the rhythm of the vocal, but also in your vocal delivery a bit! (And to me that's a good thing!) Was happy to hear the backing vox come in at 2:10--I could have done with even more, and earlier. And the instrumental arrangement is great--the Lovett analogy makes me imagine Western swing-style fiddle in there too.

Yeah, I wish I could get the hang of fiddle... the bow just doesn't seem to be my friend. Glad you enjoyed it!

Very catchy song
with the off beat parts in the rhythm (love it), love the instrumentation too. Vocals are great and yes I can hear the Lyle thing; he was on TV here last week, though I've not heard a great lot of him over in UK. With a fiddle as Michael suggests and air-time,I think this could be a hit for you as well. Great lyrics and a good song David, regards M

Got me on your side Dave
Love the theme and the way you approached it. Great lyrics and melody, with that very cool little country shuffle going on behind it. The band sounds great too.

Just a folk singer. Well - mostly a folk singer, but I like to try just about every style a middle-class white guy from Mid-Michigan can sincerely try. Be sure to check out my "band" — I used to play R&R with these guys back in the 70s, but now we'... [see more]
