Lyrics
the heart is gone down,no one adores
the kid on the ground
the king at the door
the heart's gone down

the way you left them, the way they left you
the cast of stone, even with them
the heart's gone down

they got you up here, cold and alone
they got your fear, ripped at the bone
the face is torn, nothig is born
the heart's gone down

just one chance to be in the world
just one chance to see in this world

lost andvoid,the name is uncoiled
one poem of you,one burnin' wound
trying to get through, with sound, the stone
in one word i lost this town
the heart is gone down

Love these lyrics. Good earnest vocal performance. Need to boost guitar level. Sounds like you're recording with one mic. Just a matter of slightly different mic placement to split difference between voc and guitar. Nicely written tune, though.

recording mic placment etc
Yes that's indeed the way David records his demos. he came to my studio we worked on some of his songs and after making everything sound great he decided against the big studio arrangments and just used his demos. That took guts. An example of the band/studio arrangments can be found on youtube search fo "jean Said" me doing my best Edge from u2 impersoniation and doing live bass? and some drum sequencing

Dave
Very heartfelt folk song, well written and the vocal is intense. I agree with John, if you have just one mic set it on the table or desk about a foot and a half away from both vocal and guitar and it might give a better result.

Hey Dave
Great song, I really like it, you push out a great presence with your voice.
Powerful words 'no one adores the kid on the ground' how true that is.
The sparseness is immense.
Mighty stuff indeed.

whoa again
great recording, love the intimacy, the breathing between lines...you've got such an arresting voice. i heard johnny cash too but also tom waits and antony hegarty. what sets your stuff apart though is that you pair that great voice with some really interesting lyrics and a great sense of the dramatic. Wish we could download this stuff, it'd be on my ipod.

the heart is gone down
another great live track. the heart is gone down...you have a great way of making your sentences so 'odd' and as a result so interesting and evocative. this reminds me of my home town, crediton in devon....it's the sort of place you want to get through as quickly as possible...and yet i'm pissed off there's a tesco there now.

i dont agree with john,it does not need to be perfect on gutar, the lyric and voice shape the song, like any good actor should not need a large backdrop.just tell the truth.a deep and powerful song.to late to stop now.
