Ah, yes
Deceptive little song. I'm quite fond of midi and the conceptual approaches it makes possible. You have a full sonic palette here. Knowing your competing musical proclivities, I have a question: did you play this or 'draw' it? (In parts, it has a very rigorous quality, but the overall effect is surprisingly organic.) Do tell.

Play/draw
The drum part is a loop. I can't program this sort of drum parts. Everything else was played by me, though several of the parts were subsequently quantized. This sort of music demands it.

Thanks for listening.

No recorders Vic?
Lots of energy in this - could possibly do with some light and shade, but that's probably not a part of the genre (about which I know zilch!).
I have to say it's a little difficult to reconcile the quantum gap between this and recorders, but someone has to do it. Despite my ignorance Vic, I found this an enjoyable listen.

Actually, there's plenty of electronic stuff in my back catalogue, that music just didn't have my attention lately.

Thanks for listening.

Right: down with sweet flutes!
This is wild for sure. Are you supposed to dance to it? If so, I'm glad it's short: my heart would give out about halfway in. But I like it!

You said on my latest...
"Unlike my latest slick DnB, this is the real tabasco: a raw and powerful jungle track. Great stuff." Well, I guess you know this, but this is no less worth mine simply because you chose to explore a more ambient and gentle variety of this massive and beautiful genre. Very nice work, definite favourite! Wicked orchestration, loving the rushes leading up to the ones. If you want, I could chuck you a whole bunch of jungle loops I've done.

nice
for starters i like that guitar riff, a little reminiscent of The Churches "Reptile".

cool groove on the rhythm section and the short keyboard runs was a nice touch. I wouldn't of minded it going a little longer though.

Thanks. That was a fairly blah sounding sample, pumped through an amp sim, a reverb, and more stuff. It came out all right, I think.

Don't make too much of it.....
Part of this track was a bunch of experiments. I took some care in putting the parts together, but as a composition it's not one for the ages.

I may continue on this path for a little while, though.

You followed the rule of 8 on this piece (something I always pay very close attention to) - if you are not familiar with this rule it says that every 8 measures you do something different, and that is what you did. It keeps the tune interesting and fresh. Well done, interesting piece.

Apart from
interesting composition with the multitude of layers and drive, drive drive, the great picture looks as though it could be the incentive for that latest tune I have up. A bab..... to quoat Bill and Ted, "Shuwang"

The music is moooving as well though you have more than just drum and bass......... grin's Way cool amigo................

I like the understated nature of this. Have you heard anything by Robert Hood - this reminded me of that school of minimalist techno. Like to see it develop a bit more, but very nice.

That frenetic hi-hat part really moves this piece along, yet the chord progression would not be out of place in a down tempo rock ballad. This makes for an interesting contrast. I especially like the ascending synth line.

I am curious what sort of mood you wanted to create with this music. It is definitely high-energy, but I couldn't listen to the whole thing or else my pacemaker would have blown out!

Best wishes.

Mood
this track was really a throwaway effort, not intended as much of a composition. Of course I try to make everything that I do listenable (and I'm gratified with the response I'm getting) but really this is not very serious.

Here's what it is:
1/ I had just bought Ultra Analog (hence the title) and wanted to try it out.
2/ I had come across a tutorial for multi-layered instruments in Logic, and used to that make a cool bass patch. It's not all that audible here, but this bass is a layering of a 303-alike, something metallic from Sculpture, and an echoing rhodes piano.
3/ Likewise, I had just read through a tutorial on getting a lo-fi guitar sound. Ok, this is not terribly lo-fi, but it has an impressive amount of processing on the guitar, and I wanted to do something with the sound.
4/ I decided to revisit String Studio, so this track has one or two (I'd have to look it up) really nifty patches.

And I like DnB.....

lick
Vic Holman is right. that is one really tasty guitar riff. I usually can't take DnB for more than 30 seconds or so, it's just to chaotic for my constitution, but somehow that riff kept me mellow enough to make it though the whole thing and appreciate the nuances of the synths. Really cool pice Vic, I dug it. Goin back for a second run-though.

this is a nice little experiment of sounds and textures. it would be interesting to see where you took this if you wanted to pull it out into a full length DnB piece. easy to get lost in these beats. nice layering and use of the samples.

Nice work Vic. You may consider putting a chorus and bridge in along the way... that is if your planning on expanding on this. I love the stereo spread and synth run. Very nice.
